The Case For A John Cena vs. The Undertaker Rematch at WrestleMania 35

This past Sunday we witnessed The Undertaker finally answer John Cena’s challenge for a match during WrestleMania 34.

The Undertaker answering the challenge wasn’t much of a surprise. The WWE Universe felt as if there was no way that Cena would continually tease the epic encounter week after week leading up to ‘Mania just for The Deadman to no-show the event.

What nobody saw coming was a squash match with Cena losing to ‘Taker in 2 minutes and 45 seconds.

I figured that this would be the last time that we saw Big Evil compete in a WWE ring. But I have to admit that The Undertaker looked better and moved around more swiftly than he has since his WrestleMania 29 match with CM Punk back in 2013.

When the lights went out, the gong hit, and ‘Taker made his walk down to the ring, John Cena looked as if he had seen a ghost. He seemed like he didn’t actually expect The Undertaker to show up and looked completely caught off guard.

Cena was so “shook” by Taker’s appearance that he never got anything going in this match. While going for his classic “You Can’t See Me” into a Five Knuckle Shuffle, The Undertaker sat up and stared so hard at Cena that he completely bailed on the move and jumped away in fear.

After that, it was all Undertaker. He hit all of his signature spots culminating with a Tombstone Piledriver for the pinfall victory.

When it was all said and done, more people were talking about the squash aspect of the match rather than the “surprise” appearance of The Undertaker himself.

WWE recently announced that we will indeed see ‘Taker continue his in-ring career in a couple weeks at The Greatest Royal Rumble special event. It was originally announced that he would compete in a casket match against Rusev, but his opponent was changed to Chris Jericho.

Knowing that The Undertaker is booked to wrestle beyond WrestleMania leads me to strongly believe that he will compete at WrestleMania 35.

John Cena has one full year to “build himself up” for a rematch against The Undertaker.

I want Cena to call out The Deadman with every single chance that he gets. I want ‘Taker to be reluctant because he has nothing to prove after such a dominant performance.

This story could see John Cena work on a more part-time schedule but start winning big-time matches again.

2017 was a rough year for Cena in the ring due to him losing most of his high-profile matches. 2018 has started off even rockier.

This is the perfect time to witness Cena climb back up to the “top of the mountain” to earn himself his big rematch with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 35.

Maybe Cena could even win the WWE or Universal Championship along the way.

Seeing John Cena as the record-breaking 17 time World Champion going into another match with The Undertaker would make for a very interesting storyline, especially if ‘Taker is willing to put his career on the line for a chance to become World Champion one more time.

I think that Cena vs. Undertaker this past Sunday was just an appetizer. The match was used to preview next year’s massive showdown. WrestleMania 34 was such a stacked show on paper that WWE didn’t even officially advertise their contest.

Next year I think we get the epic showdown between John Cena and The Undertaker that we’ve always wanted.
