Defiant Wrestling No Regrets: Austin Aries loses title to Rampage

Rampage defeated Austin Aries for the Defiant Wrestling title, and Martin Kirby won the No Regrets Rumble.

Defiant Wrestling consistently brings out some of the best wrestling available in the United Kingdom. 2018 No Regrets continued that trend with a number of big title matches and a number one contender rumble match. The headline featured a major title change and the introduction of a new general manager for the promotion as a whole.

Since leaving the WWE in 2017, Aries has become known as the “belt collector,” as he has procured titles from multiple organizations across the industry. Defiant Wrestling is one of those groups that called Aries their champion; that was until No Regrets 2018. It was here that Rampage would defeat Aries via pin fall to take the Defiant Wrestling title away, lessening his belt count by one.

This was an enjoyable match that continued to show that Aries is an amazing talent in the industry today. He and Rampage exchanged a number of moments both slow and fast paced, with Aries selling at the end really telling the story. This was a solid match for both men and a great way to put Rampage over as the new champion. Also, after this match Stu Bennet (formerly Wade Barrett in the WWE) stepped down as the general manager of the company, transferring power over to “Primate” Jay Melrose.

That wasn’t the only title change of the night. The duo known as the Aussie Open, Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher, defeated Jimmy Havoc and Mark Haskins to become the new tag team champions. Havoc and Haskins were unable to defeat the Aussie Open for the second time, as they lose the belts they took from them a month ago.

The Internet Championship match between Walter and Travis Banks was also a solid match. In what was an intriguing ending we saw Banks get the pinfall while Walter submitted him at the same time; forcing the referee to declare the matchup a draw. Millie McKenzie also retrained her Defiant Wrestling women’s title when she defeated Kay Lee Ray.

Longtime Defiant Wrestling personality, Martin Kirby, would become the number one contender when he found a way to win the No Regrets Rumble match. Entering the rumble at number 29 he would eliminate El Ligero, Joe Hendry, and assist with the elimination of Gabriel Kidd. Early in the night he was defeated by Chief Deputy Dunne and that defeat plus his victory in the Rumble sets up an additional storyline that can be told in future events.
