Impact Wrestling: Eli Drake Will Challenge Pentagon Jr. Next Week

Impact Wrestling World Champion Pentagon Jr. has his first title defense lined up, and it will take place next week on television against Eli Drake.

At “Feast or Fired”, Eli Drake earned a shot at the Impact Wrestling Tag Team Championships, and he successfully cashed in that opportunity by teaming up with Scott Steiner to defeat LAX for the gold. Drake also earned the briefcase with a world title shot by defeating “Moose” in a briefcase vs. briefcase match, and he just announced tonight that he will cash in that briefcase next week on current world champion Penatgon Jr.

When Pentagon Jr. defeated Austin Aries and Rey Fenix – pinning the former – to win the Impact World Championship at Redemption, shockwaves were sent throughout the wrestling world. Although Pentagon Jr. is a living legend and one of the most charismatic wrestlers on the planet, he isn’t signed to Impact. This made his world title win such a surprise.

The move shows other promotions just how much Impact is willing to work with them, but it is unclear how long Pentagon Jr.’s reign will last. Most of us are hopeful that the supremely gifted luchador will have an extensive run at the top, but it is also possible that his championship reign could be cut short.

But could it be cut this short? Could Eli Drake win the Impact World Title off of Pentagon Jr. on television next week and hold both the world championship and tag team championships alongside Steiner?

Even though it’s possible, it’s highly unlikely. Pentagon Jr. needs to be champion for much longer, and he should ideally drop the title at a big Pay Per View event. After all, Pentagon Jr. gets people talking as a champion, he’s a dream match machine, and he can sell PPV buys with the world title around his waist.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Drake can pull off the upset, and it will also be interesting to see what sort of underhanded tactics the “Gravy Daddy” tries on a man who has “Cero Miedo”.
