AJA KONG VS VIPER
In our second “International Dream Match”, we have another joshi wrestling legend going head to head with a European superstar. The talent level is the same, but the tone is something very different, and it should be a lot of fun.
Viper may be best known as Piper Niven to WWE fans, but her fans in Europe know her as Viper. Viper has been a dominant force in women’s wrestling for some time now, and her fanbase, like her career, spans the globe. Her fun, bubbly personality is a strong contrast to her brutal, quick paced work in the ring. That work has paid off dividends with excellent runs of matches in Stardom, ICW, and of course EVE. It’s a lot of fun to watch Viper wrestle, and even she when she’s working heel, you can’t help but root for her.
Which is good, because she’s going to need all the encouragement she can get this Saturday. As the theme song says: “God made the Devil just for fun. When he wanted the real thing, he made Aja Kong!” (Seriously, go listen to that theme song, it’s awesome.)
Aja Kong may not be as well known as Bull Nakano to some audiences, but she is perhaps the most notorious pure monster heel in joshi history and her decades-long career and influence on the sport is undeniable. In the ring she is an unconquerable wall of badassery. She’s athletic, cruel, and unstoppable- and she knows it. She is still so scary today that Kota Ibushi was surprised by a match with her on a prank show. His terrified expression tells you all you need to know. You don’t want to be across the ring from Aja Kong.
Harmony: This is low-key the match I am most excited about at Wrestle Queendom. I love both of these wrestlers, but I am incredibly biased towards Aja Kong because I am a huge fan of joshi wrestling and Aja has been a part of some of my favorite wrestling matches of all time. I think Viper’s energy and nimble-but-powerful move set will be like throwing a bouncy ball against a brick wall. No offense meant to Viper, of course, but for me it’s Aja in a walk.
Joe: You know, I thought we were blessed enough to be getting a match between Kay Lee f*****g Ray and Meiko Satomura, so the fact that we’re getting both is tremendous. I’m actually going to pick Viper here. She’s on top of the world right now, and this would be a huge win for her career. Viper’s been a tremendous ICW Women’s Champion, and I can’t wait to see the match she and Aja Kong pull out here.
