ROH Wrestling: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Kelly Klein At War Of The Worlds

facebooktwitterreddit

Deonna Purrazzo and Kelly Klein have forged one of wrestling’s best rivalries over the course of a year. The two will come to blows again on a big stage at ROH Wrestling’s War of the Worlds show in Chicago.

Neither Deonna Purrazzo nor Kelly Klein were able to win the Women of Honor Tournament and capture ROH Wrestling’s first WOH Title, but they unsurprisingly dazzled throughout the tournament before being eliminated. Sumie Sakai is the inaugural Women of Honor Champion, and she will defend her title against Jenny Rose (her first challenger) at Chicago’s War of the Worlds show on Sunday, May 13.

Sakai and Rose won’t be the only two women competing at War of the Worlds Chicago, but Ring of Honor has announced that Purrazzo and Klein will also square off at the show. Although the title isn’t on the line here, a future title opportunity seems to be. I mean, it’s no coincidence that these two are fighting in Chicago and not at another War of the Worlds location (Lowell, Massachusetts; Toronto; and Royal Oak, Michigan are the other locations on the ROH tour), so could a confrontation between Sakai and the winner of this match take place?

Klein and Purrazzo are two of the best women’s wrestlers on the planet right now, and you could argue that their rivalry is the best in women’s wrestling at this very moment in time. Back when Klein boasted an undefeated streak, Purrazzo tapped her out multiple times. But the ref never noticed, which meant Purrazzo never officially won.

Frustrated, Purrazzo made it her mission to defeat Klein, and she achieved this last week at ROH’s Bound By Honor show in West Palm Beach, Florida. However, Purrazzo wants to do more than just beat Klein. She wants to make ROH’s “Gatekeeper” tap out. She wants to break Klein’s arm.

Purrazzo is called the “Virtuosa” for a reason, and her finishing maneuver, the Fujiwara armbar, is her speciality. Klein is known for submitting her opponents, too, making use of a Guillotine Choke that she calls “End of the Match”. Because it almost always is.

On May 13, these two will write the next chapter in their incredible rivalry, and my money is on The Virtuosa to successfully clamp her devastating submission and tap Klein out.
