Rich Swann’s Future With Impact Wrestling Is Already Looking Bright
Rich Swann has returned to a television near you, as he debuted on Impact Wrestling Thursday night with a win over Trevor Lee. Now, he’s heading to Slammiversary.
Over six months have passed since Rich Swann was indefinitely suspended and then released from WWE after being arrested for alleged domestic abuse against his wife, Impact Wrestling star Su Yung.
This Thursday, Swann himself made his Impact debut, and by the reaction of the crowd in Windsor, ON, the return was warmly welcomed.
Swann’s debut comes at a very opportune time on the Impact calendar – their marquee event Slammiversary is less than a month away.
After his debut, it was announced that Swann is set to take part in an four-way match against Johnny Impact, Rey Fenix, and Taiji Ishimori at Slammiversary on July 22nd. The match seems to be hurriedly put together, consisting of key Impact Wrestling stars who had yet to be booked on the event, so who knows how long-term any potential match-ups stemming from that match will go.
What can we expect for Rich Swann after Slammiversary? It’s safe to say Swann’s fearless and acrobatic style is an absolutely perfect fit for the X Division. These traits could easily earn him a shot at the X Division title in months to come.
Depending on how high-profile of a feud they’re willing to give Swann off the bat, he’s got a few options. Firstly, we have the Eli Drake, who just re-signed with the company this week. After cashing in his World Championship briefcase in a losing effort against Pentagon Jr., breaking up with his tag team parter Scott Steiner, and losing a match to Moose to become the number one contender to the Impact World Championship, Drake will certainly be available for a new feud going into Slammiversary.
There’s also the option of putting Swann in a feud designed to put him over a bit more easily. My mind goes immediately to KM, who fans love to hate, especially after he turned on his former “best friend”, my personally beloved Fallah Bah. Someone with enough fan support as Swann is an ideal candidate to knock KM down a couple pegs.
Hear me out here – this last option may be the wackiest, but it has the potential to be the most fun. Swann’s known for having a good time in the ring, so to speak. He dances up to the ring, fan clap along with his music. There’s no denying that Swann can entertain a crowd night after night, week after week.
Sounds not too far off from another Impact stand out, don’t you think?
Why not Grado? Sure the characters are similar, and yes, they’re both taking the babyface roll at the moment. Wouldn’t it be fun still to see the two go head to head for who’s the top “fun guy” of this promotion? It’s not a ground-breaking, main-event feud, but guaranteed it could keep you laughing and entertained. That could be a stand-out segment.

Regardless of where they take Rich Swann on Impact Wrestling, it’s clear solely by the reaction of the fans that his return is a triumphant and eagerly-awaited one. Only time will tell how exactly Swann will flourish in his television return.
