WWE SummerSlam 2018: Seth Rollins Gets Rematch Against Dolph Ziggler

At Extreme Rules, Seth Rollins lost his opportunity to reclaim the Intercontinental Championship from Dolph Ziggler, as Drew McIntyre decided to completely change the complexion of their Ironman Match. Next month at WWE SummerSlam 2018, Rollins will get one more chance to win the most prestigious championship in WWE.

WWE SummerSlam 2018 looks like it will be an absolutely fantastic show, and Seth Rollins will look to steal the show for the umpteenth time this year. “Monday Night Rollins” has arguably been WWE’s MVP thus far, with tremendous bouts against wrestlers like Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, The Miz, and Dolph Ziggler.

He and Ziggler had a great match in Pittsburgh at Extreme Rules, even if fans were chanting to the countdown timer and were critical of there being nine total falls in a 30-minute Ironman Match. Nevertheless, Rollins burned it down, even if he came up short due to Drew McIntyre’s interference.

On Raw this week, Rollins pinned Ziggler with “The Stomp” after sending McIntyre to the outside with a well-timed headscissors during a tag match. Rollins saved Finn Balor from a beatdown by Ziggler after Balor essentially had McIntyre beat in a singles match, hence why Kurt Angle created a tag team match pitting Balor and Rollins against Ziggler and McIntyre.

Because Rollins pinned the champion, Ziggler, in that match, Angle decided to give Rollins one more shot at the Intercontinental Championship as his match at SummerSlam this year. Rollins already lost to McIntyre on the episode of Raw prior to Extreme Rules, which allowed McIntyre to interfere at the Pay Per View, so a rematch between them would have been great.

However, a match between Rollins and Ziggler will be just as good, especially since the two will be determined to top their effort at Extreme Rules in front of a (hopefully) less distracted crowd.

Ziggler and Rollins are two of the best in the business, so this announcement has me fired up. Like many, I did kind of want to see Rollins in the Universal Championship picture, because he’s earned it with his incredible work in 2018. That said, another run with the Intercontinental Championship wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize by any means, especially if WWE is more interested in having Bobby Lashley, Braun Strowman, or Roman Reigns holding the Universal Title.
