Impact Wrestling: Santino Marella Announced for TV Tapings

Finally, Impact Wrestling answered our prayers! Could we see the return of The Milan Miracle to our TV’s on a weekly basis?

On April 16, 2007, the heavens delivered a gift from above to the wrestling world. Santino Marella (real name – Anthony Carelli) debuted in WWE. On that magical night in Milan, a “hometown” hero would defeat Umaga to capture the Intercontinental Championship. While some call it an upset, there’s no denying that on that night a hero was born. As his unibrow grew bushy and unsettling, so too did our love for this Italian Stallion. And now, he’s making his way to Impact Wrestling.

He might have retired from in-ring competition, but that hasn’t stopped him continuing to be part of the industry. Carelli’s charisma and promo skills are extraordinarily entertaining and would make for a welcome addition to this company. If he is to return to Impact in a regular on-screen role, it has the potential to be great for business.

Depending on what capacity Don Callis and Scott D’Amore elect to use him in, he could very well work his way up to being one of the most over acts in pro wrestling like he did during the late 00’s. As a manager, he could help get a less established superstar to be more over. We can only hope that Anthony’s signing on to join their commentary team. Whatever his intentions, ideally he sticks around longer than his appearance in the 2009 Royal Rumble.

Carelli attended Slammiversary XVI on Sunday night, and now, he’s ready to get in on the action. Again, he’s unlikely going to get physical.  But, with his debut coming on the heels of a wild PPV, it’ll certainly be one to remember.
