Impact Wrestling: Pentagon Jr and Rey Fenix Linked to WWE

With rumors swirling that WWE is interested in signing the Lucha Bros, Impact Wrestling is in danger of losing two of its biggest stars.

Whether you buy into this Impact Wrestling resurgence or not, it would be difficult to deny that the quality of their roster. From Austin Aries to Taiji Ishimori, the level of ability alone is enough to get any wrestling fan excited. But, as Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben once said, “With great talent comes great responsibility.”

Since much of their locker room comprised of upstart indie stars, the company will always run the risk of having WWE poaching some of its big-time performers. The latest pair to be linked to the Performance Center are Pentagon Jr and Rey Fenix, as the Wrestling Observer News’s Dave Meltzer reported last week that WWE has sent out “feelers”. Don Callis and Scott D’Amore can’t afford to let them jump ship to Full Sail.

Insert whatever joke you’d like about the ever-expanding nature of the PC, but for Impact, there’s nothing funny about it. The Lucha Bros are two of the hottest names in independent wrestling. After their success on Lucha Underground, Pentagon and Fenix moved to the US and took over the circuit.

With appearances in promotions like PWG, AAW, and MLW, it’s not surprising to hear that they’ve shown up on Triple H’s radar. As the Ricochet’s and Aleister Black’s of NXT move up to the big time, the Lucha Bros could easily join Matt Riddle as the next faces of the company. Their arrival could bring an even more significant boost to their ticket sales for live events. While we’ve seen them scrap it up with many of the “developmental” brand’s brightest and best, the main roster is where a host of dream matches await the two brothers.

For Pentagon Jr, where do you start? John Cena, Roman Reigns, or Rusev would be certified slobber knockers for sure. Then there are former indie guys Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, and Samoa Joe. At least one of those has the potential to break Dave Meltzer’s 5-star rating system.  Even this current heel Randy Orton could make for a fun match. Honorable mention here goes to Braun Strowman. It’s no secret that he can carry a brand, as seen in both Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling, so why not throw him in there with the cream of the crop?

As for Fenix, it’s more than likely he would end up on 205Live to tango with the Cruiserweights. For the sake of this writing, let’s assume that he beefs up a little while at Full Sail and goes to the main roster. With Rey Mysterio being rumored to return, Fenix is more than deserving of a singles match with him. Other exciting options include Andrade “Cien” Almas, Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, Finn Balor, and of course Seth Rollins. A low-key dream match for him would be against Cesaro.

If you’re a wrestling fan, any big signing like this is a win. Of course, there are those who are concerned about the capacity down at the Performance Center. Can more indie stars really flourish on any of these star-studded WWE rosters? Only time will tell on that front.

As for Impact Wrestling, it would be a tough break to lose out on two names that they’ve invested a lot of TV time and money. Who knows if management will allow, or if they even can even do anything, should the Lucha Bros choose to sign with WWE?
