MLW World Heavyweight Title Goes International

The MLW World Heavyweight Title will earn its “World” moniker as Low Ki prepares to defend the championship against “The King of Monsters” Jonah Rock at NHPW Final Chapter IX in Perth, Australia.

Low Ki has a worthy list of challengers gunning for his freshly won MLW World Heavyweight Title but none bigger than the man against whom he will defend on November 30th in Australia. Ki made his first successful title defense against John Hennigan on MLW Fusion Episode 18 and has his sights set on the future with a defense against Rey Fenix at War Games on September 6.

Low Ki’s challenger for MLW’s Fury Road on October 6 is yet to be determined, but we know that should he make it past the next several months with the gold around his waist that he will find a Rock in his path.

Jonah Rock has been having an impressive past couple of years as he builds his name not only in Australia but all over the world. Rock competed in PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles in 2017 with a losing effort to Zack Sabre Jr in the first round. Rock has continued to impress in PWG with battles against the likes of WALTER, Keith Lee and Jeff Cobb.

“The King of Monsters” is a big man for the modern era – one who can use strength, power, and speed to overwhelm and overcome his opponents. Months after the loss to Zack Sabre at BOLA, Rock was able to gain some semblance of revenge at World Series Wrestling’s International Assault 2K17.

Rock has proven that he can more than hold his own against other men his own size, but through his encounters with men like Zack Sabre Jr, he also shows that he can match smaller competitors move for move and hold for hold.

While Sabre and Low Ki have relatively unique styles from one another, both men have found great success in the art of kicking their opponents as hard as humanly possible. Rock was able to withstand Sabre’s dangerous kicks and come up with a victory – could Low Ki find himself with the same outcome as 2018 nears its end?

There is, of course, a chance that Low Ki doesn’t make it to November 30th at all. In this case, MLW has a contingency plan; in a blog post announcing the match we are informed, “In the event Low Ki is dethroned prior to the title fight, the new World Heavyweight Champion would honor the championship fight and defend the belt.”

If Rey Fenix can overcome his former associate Salina de La Renta’s new ticket to the top on September 6 in Fort Lauderdale, it will be one half of the Lucha Bros who brings international notoriety to the MLW World Heavyweight Title.

For Jonah Rock, the opponent likely doesn’t matter. While Rock has an impressive championship title history, he has yet to hold a title for a US-based promotion. This is an opportunity for him to stake his claim at the top of Major League Wrestling and take a huge step into the US independent wrestling scene.

Whether it’s Low Ki, Rey Fenix or someone else holding MLW World Heavyweight Title when November 30 rolls around remains to be seen – what is certain is that Jonah Rock is on the precipice of perhaps the biggest fight of his career.
