WWE: Bobby Roode and Chad Gable must be given a chance to shine as a tag team

Don’t sleep on the team of Bobby Roode and Chad Gable just yet, as they could wind up being the saviors of WWE Raw’s depleted tag team division.

WWE likely figured that the state of the tag team division on Raw couldn’t get much worse, so in a random move, Bobby Roode and Chad Gable were paired off as a tag team on the Sept. 3 edition of Raw. Surprisingly enough, they gelled right from the get-go.

Moments before heading out to the ring for their first match as a unit, Gable and Roode commented on their newfound alliance in an interview with Charly Caruso. Gable commented that he admired how Roode carried himself, also pointing out that he is skilled in the tag team wrestling department.

It was evident from their entrance together that they had instant chemistry, at least as characters. They played off each other exceptionally well, resulting a victory for them over The Ascension.

WWE is known for its makeshift tag teams, typically because they have no plans for two separate Superstars and decide to pair them together. Most times it feels forced and doesn’t work, but there are instances where it does, such as with Daniel Bryan and Kane as Team Hell No.

More from Raw

Needless to say, it’s pretty apparent that WWE has no plans at the moment for either Roode or Gable in singles competition. It’s a shame because both are incredibly talented yet have been vastly underutilized since coming over to Raw in the 2018 Superstar Shake-up.

Their alliance could always be short-lived and they may not be an entertaining tandem in the long-run, but the duo must first be given a chance to shine by fans and officials alike.

It’s no secret that Roode is a natural heel and should have never been brought up as a babyface to begin with. It’s been rumored that this team with Gable could serve as a way to turn Roode heel sooner rather than later and lead him to feuding with Gable from that point forward.

Roode and Gable would surely work well together as opponents, but in the meantime, WWE should make the most of them as partners. Already, they have shown signs of greatness and could be the shot in the arm the Raw tag team scene desperately needs right now.

After all, there aren’t many other tandems who would make sense to take the tag titles from current champs Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre eventually.

Ziggler and McIntyre beating The B-Team for the belts last week was a step in the right direction for the division, but the process of rehabbing the perception of tag team wrestling on Raw has only just begun.

The Authors of Pain, even with Drake Maverick as their new mouthpiece, need to be built back up before they can be considered true threats to the titles again. The same can be said for The Revival, who have plenty of potential but have been handled horribly up to this point.

Meanwhile, Titus Worldwide, The Deleters of Worlds and Breezango are either inactive due to injuries or on the verge of splitting up. Thus, that increases Roode and Gable’s chances of competing for tag team gold before the year is through.

Roode has captured his fair share of singles championships over the past seven years, including the United States Championship, the NXT Championship, and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. However, he is also a seasoned tag team wrestler having won gold with James Storm and Austin Aries.

That said, Roode can be a valuable asset to Raw’s tag team division, along with Gable. Speaking of the former Olympic athlete, his pairings with Jason Jordan and Shelton Benjamin were a ton of fun, so he could certainly bring the best out of The Glorious One as well.

If afforded the opportunity to thrive, Roode and Gable just may exceed expectations and prove to be better off as a unit than they were on their own.
