With Roman Reigns still just weeks into his first Universal Title reign, a win over Braun Strowman at Hell in a Cell seems like the logical decision.

After making fans watch as Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar reenacted some of the worst aspects of the John Cena/Rock feud for the past few months, WWE finally put the Universal Championship on their guy at SummerSlam.

Reigns as Universal Champion is the culmination of the company’s five-year odyssey to anointing the former Georgia Tech linebacker as the company’s top protagonist. To say that there have been a few bumps during this journey would be a massive understatement but for better or worse, Vince McMahon is following through on his mission statement.

Reigns’s first challenger comes in the massive form of one of his most heated rivals: Braun Strowman. The two will go to war once again, but this time it will be for one of the richest prizes in the company and it will take place inside Hell in a Cell at the pay-per-view of the same name this Sunday.

But wait, there’s more! Because WWE believed that two of their top RAW stars competing in one of their most treasured gimmick matches wasn’t enough to sell viewers on this show, they named Hall of Famer Mick Foley the special guest referee for the contest. Supposedly, WWE inserted Foley into the match to help promote his stand-up special that will air on the WWE Network following the PPV, but there’s also a non-zero chance that WWE will have Foley screw over Reigns and help Strowman win the title. Hey, if they can turn Becky Lynch heel, they can book that finish.

Hopefully, WWE keeps this match relatively simple. That means that Reigns needs to beat Strowman clean and retain his title.
