Daily She-DT: Nia Jax Is Awesome, Excitement Around Mia Yim

facebooktwitterreddit

Today’s edition of Daily She-DT looks at Mia Yim’s signing with WWE, another big match between Kay Lee Ray and Viper, last night’s action on Raw, and Nia Jax being awesome.

Let’s start with Mia Yim. She is a former Knockouts and Shine Champion who has been one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world for the past several years. WWE fans saw her talent first-hand at the inaugural Mae Young Classic, where she put together a sick second round match against future NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler.

Yim’s performance against Baszler led many fans to plea for WWE to sign her. While that didn’t happen last year, Yim has signed with WWE after the second Mae Young Classic. This signing had been rumored for a week, but PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson confirmed the signing yesterday morning.

Going into this year’s MYC, pretty much every fan was begging for WWE to sign Yim after last year’s showing, and it’s great to hear that she did enough at this year’s tapings to impress WWE. I mean, I’m sure they always understood her talent, but sometimes it’s just about timing.

Either way, it’s great to see that Yim will be in NXT, and she could do some major damage in that loaded women’s division.

Big Championship Match At HurricanePro

Yesterday, Hurricane Pro Wrestling started selling tickets for its Oct. 13 show, which contains a gem of a main event. Miranda Alize, who wrestled in the first Mae Young Classic as Miranda Salinas, will defend the women’s championship in a Fatal Four-Way match against Santana Garrett, Britt Baker, and Rachael Ellering. That’s quite the collection of big names, so fans attending the show in Beaumont, Texas will be in for a treat.

Becky Lynch On Lilian Garcia’s ‘Chasing Glory’

Becky Lynch is a regular in this daily feature, because she just keeps making noise as the SmackDown Women’s Champion. Yesterday, she returned to Lilian Garcia’s “Chasing Glory” podcast, where she spoke about her new character. Lynch spoke openly about why WWE had her initially cut a promo against the fans, admitting that it didn’t make much sense, given that the fans had always been behind her.

That was just one part of a show that included Becky discussing more about her character, as well as some important points about how her mindset had to change since being drafted to the main roster.

On another Becky-related note, a match between her and Charlotte Flair has been made official for the Madison Square Garden show on Sept. 28. This is also your friendly reminder that Lynch vs. Flair is the feud in WWE.

Another Big Viper vs. Kay Lee Ray Match

Kay Lee Ray won the World of Sport Women’s Championship earlier this year in a Triple Threat match against Viper and Bea Priestely, and she successfully retained the title against Viper over the weekend on a TV episode of WOS.

The matches between KLR and Viper (which includes a match Viper won a the ROH Honor Re-United show on Day 1) this year have been excellent. They have such great chemistry together and are forming what is low-key one of the best rivalries in wrestling this year.

ICW has announced that Viper will defend the ICW Women’s Championship against KLR on Dec. 2 at the “Fear & Loathing” show at the SSE Hydro in Scotland.

That is some way to put an exclamation mark on 2018!

Oh, and in case you didn’t notice Viper is the 15th-coolest person in Scotland!

Nia Jax Is A Finalist For Game Changer Of The Year

The 2018 People’s Choice Awards are ongoing, and the WWE Universe has helped give Nia Jax a huge boost. She received enough votes to be one of the five finalists for the “Game Changer of the Year” award, where she is going up against some pretty important and inspirational people.

You can vote here, as Jax is going up against Aly Raisman, Colin Kaepernick, Serena Williams, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Raisman and Kaepernick will probably run away with the vote due to their incredibly inspiring courage in trying to lead change of historic significance.

It’s awesome to see that Jax is getting this recognition, because she has done so much to help people love their own bodies and accept themselves for who they are. Her message is one that every human being can and should get behind, and you only have to take a quick glimpse at her Twitter account to see how she radiates positivity, encouraging so many fans to be the happiest version of themselves.

Note that Nia was also named one of TODAY’s 2018 Style Heroes. Oh, and she was the recipient of A.N.A’s #SeeHER Now Award!

Meanwhile, Nikki Bella is also a finalist, as she is among the five people left fighting for the “Reality TV Star of 2018” award. Nikki is going up against the likes of Joanna Gaines and Khloe Kardashian, but she stands a good chance of winning.

Holidead Returns To WOW

After main-eventing a show in Milan, Italy last week, Holidead is still making waves this week. Women of Wrestling announced on Twitter that Holidead will return to WOW Superheroes for the AXS TV tapings on Oct. 10 and 11 at The Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Tickets are available now, and it will be exciting to see what Holidead does with WOW next month. During those tapings, Tessa Blanchard will be making her WOW Superheroes debut, too.

More Riott Squad Praise, Best Wishes To Liv Morgan

Ruby Riott was originally scheduled to face Brie Bella in singles competition on Raw, but WWE decided to change it to a six-woman tag match pitting the Riott Squad against Natalya and the Bella Twins. I’d like to highlight the above promo, which was an excellent one from Ruby Riott, who strongly furthered the narrative that the Riott Squad is here to wipe out the Bellas and Nattie as “the past” of WWE’s Women’s Division.

I enjoy listening to the venom and confidence in Ruby’s voice, and she’s such a great leader of this faction. The Riott Squad are going places, and they picked up a nifty win against the babyfaces last night. Ruby and Sarah Logan’s chemistry was too much, as Ruby rolled up Natalya with the Bellas reeling on the outside.

Meanwhile, I hope Liv Morgan is OK after absorbing a hard kick to the head from Brie Bella. I prefer not to blame wrestlers or analyze injuries in writing, because it’s a great way to make yourself look like a fool if you aren’t able to dissect something like this effectively. I can’t do that, so all I can say is that these things happen in contact sports.

I hope Liv is OK, and I want to take a second to praise how great she’s been this year. Liv has worked her ass off to improve week-to-week, and few wrestlers try as hard as she does to make every little move from their opponents look amazing.
