Daily She-DT: Carmella vs. Zelina Vega, Madison Rayne Next For WOH Title?

facebooktwitterreddit

Today’s Daily She-DT looks at a Twitter feud between Carmella and Zelina Vega, today’s PROGRESS Women’s Championship match, and Madison Rayne’s potential story in the Women of Honor division.

Let’s start with Carmella and Zelina Vega, since both wrestlers are among the best at using that thing called Twitter. Vega has featured in mixed tag matches on SmackDown Live with her client Andrade “Cien” Almas, as the two have caused major problems for Rusev and Lana and Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella.

Vega’s next target appears to be the new duo of Carmella and R-Truth, who have been firing on all cylinders. Sure, they lost to Asuka and The Miz in the first round of the Mixed Match Challenge, which Vega was sure to point out on Twitter, but there’s no shame in being defeated by last season’s champions.

Mella isn’t having any of Vega’s trash talk, and it looks like we are prepared to watch her and R-Truth team up against Vega and Almas on the upcoming episode of SmackDown Live. That should be a great match, and I’m definitely #here for this feud. Vega and Lana had some great back-and-forths last month, and I’d love to see how Carmella and Vega can shine in this rivalry.

The “Fabulous Truth” really is amazing.

Jinny vs. Toni Storm vs. Millie McKenzie For The PROGRESS Women’s Title

Jinny has been the PROGRESS Women’s Champion since May 20, and she will defend the prestigious title today in Wembley against Millie McKenzie and Toni Storm. McKenzie is coming off of a huge week with Pro Wrestling: EVE, and Storm defeated Meiko Satomura at EVE’s “Global Women Strike” on Thursday.

There’s no doubt that Jinny is one of the best characters and champions in wrestling right now, and my money is on her to retain in this Triple Threat match. McKenzie and Storm will, of course, give Jinny everything she has, and I wonder what McKenzie’s chances are of pulling off the upset. Her age makes her the underdog against the likes of Storm and Jinny, but McKenzie has WWE experience in her own right and is strong as hell.

This is definitely a match to pay attention to.

Maria Kanellis Cleared

WWE Superstar Maria Kanellis revealed on episode 24 of the “Mike and Maria in Wonderland” podcast that she has been cleared to compete. Kanellis, who is a former Knockouts Champion, hasn’t wrestled since the TNA TV tapings in October 2016.

Fans have been anxiously waiting to see her in the ring, but Maria was bringing a child into the world and had more important things to worry about. Afterwards, a broken wrist during training delayed a possible return to the ring, but she said her doctor has cleared her to return.

It will be exciting to see Maria back on WWE television, whenever that may be. We’ve only seen Mike Kanellis on TV sporadically, but he did have live event matches against the likes of Bobby Lashley and No Way Jose this summer. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before he gets something to sink his teeth into, and it will be interesting to see if Maria and Mike are showcased as a pair on Monday Night Raw.

The most important thing is that Maria is healthy, and these two stars have been through a lot since Maria returning to WWE. We’re all hoping for the best for these two, and it will be interesting to see if she is able to compete at Evolution on Oct. 28.

Is Madison Rayne Eyeing The Women Of Honor Championship?

At Ring of Honor’s “Death Before Dishonor” Pay Per View on Friday, Sumie Sakai successfully retained the Women of Honor Championship against Tenille Dashwood in shocking fashion. Many fans expected Dashwood to finally defeat Sakai and capture the WOH Title, becoming the first woman to defeat Sakai for the championship.

Instead, Dashwood, who had a taped right shoulder, passed out to a Sakai armbar to bump down to 0-2 against the current title-holder. It was a tough loss for Dashwood, but the match itself was solid, as ROH thankfully gave two of their better wrestlers about 12 minutes to work with. At the end of the day, it was a net win for the Women of Honor division, which will hopefully become a big part of ROH’s programming shortly.

New signing Madison Rayne could help with that, and she’ll strive to help build this division into something special. With the likes of Dashwood, Sakai, and Kelly Klein on the roster, Rayne won’t be the only one producing high-quality matches.

It’s worth noting that Rayne tweeted her congratulations to Sakai following the champ’s title defense at Death Before Dishonor and added a “See you soon!” at the end of her tweet.

Rayne lost her first title match against Sakai on the Sept. 2 episode of Ring of Honor TV, but it’s only a matter of time before she gets a second opportunity. Dashwood may still have a case for a match, too, and I’d enjoy watching a Triple Threat fought amongst these three incredible wrestlers.

Since Rayne did sign with WOH earlier this month, though, I’m wondering if she is the favorite to capture that championship.
