Jeff Cobb Continues A Huge Year By Winning PWG World Championship

At PWG’s “Smokey and The Bandido” show, Jeff Cobb defeated WALTER in the main event to become the new PWG World Champion, meaning that he now holds six titles around the globe.

We’ve seen several talented wrestlers make huge waves in 2018, but perhaps nobody is on a bigger roll than Jeff Cobb in recent months. After defeating Punishment Martinez for the ROH World Television Championship not long after signing with the company, Cobb secured the prestigious PWG World Championship last night.

Cobb defeated WALTER for the title in the main event of the “Smokey And The Bandido” show. Defeating WALTER is no short feat, but Cobb managed to outlast one of the most vicious wrestlers on the planet, rolling him up for a feel-good victory.

Earlier this year, Cobb won the 2018 Battle of Los Angeles (BOLA), which is one of the most important tournaments in wrestling. He had to defeat the likes of Trevor Lee and Bandido to win BOLA, joining the likes of Ricochet (who defeated Cobb and Keith Lee in the 2017 finals), Marty Scurll, and Zack Sabre Jr. as past winners.

The world seems to be Cobb’s oyster right now, as it’s quite the accomplishment to be both the PWG World Champion and ROH TV Champ. It seems like ROH realizes how good Cobb is, seeing as how he shined for years at “Matanza” in Lucha Underground and has been a critical champion for “All Pro Wrestling”.

WALTER had a solid reign with the title, as it lasted 181 days. He is the only wrestler since Sabre Jr. in 2016 to successfully retain the title twice. On Oct. 28, WALTER will defend the PROGRESS Championship against Sabre Jr. at Chapter 77.

Hopefully, Cobb’s reign as PWG Champion lasts even longer, since he is on fire and has such a high ceiling. An accomplished tag team wrestler, Cobb is even better as a singles competitor, and it’s been great to see him rise to true stardom (beyond the Matanza character) over the past several months.
