Nia’s Heat is on Borrowed Time

With Nia Jax recently having shelved SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch just before Survivor Series with an errant blow to the face, it seemed the “Irresistible Force” was in for a major character rejuvenation. As was immediately evident, the WWE Universe turned hostile toward Jax for taking out the most popular star in the wrestling world and she ate it up by dusting off her knuckles every chance she got.

This was legitimate heat, something that simply cannot be manufactured in the age of social media. The jury is out on whether it was right or wrong of WWE to capitalize on the situation, but the fact of the matter is that, ultimately, they did. The company went all in with Jax and embraced the jeers from the crowd to make her one of the most hated stars in the company overnight.

From here it was up to Nia Jax to take the ball and run with it. As we saw on Raw, Nia gave her first big promo since injuring Lynch, but the boastful bully thing just isn’t coming naturally for her. It’s not believable that the woman who was ruthless enough to break Becky’s face and brag about it would be laughing like a goofball for ten minutes on live television, and if the cooling reaction from the audience on Monday Night Raw is any indication, the WWE Universe concurs.

The boos are slowly fading and now the former Raw Women’s Champion is dangerously close to losing momentum. WWE is certainly hoping to channel Nia’s heat to make her a worthy challenger to current Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at TLC, but unless something drastically changes in the presentation, the heat getting generated by #FaceBreaker is on borrowed time.
