STARDOM At WrestleMania Weekend Is Everything We Need To Support
On Apr. 5, STARDOM Wrestling will run a show over WrestleMania weekend in New York City, and this is exactly the type of event wrestling fans must support.
Every few months, wrestling fans on social media begin a debate about whether NJPW should have a women’s division, and the discussion quickly shifts to educating fans about all-women’s promotions in Japan, with STARDOM Wrestling being the headlining act.
While it’s an important discussion to have and most wrestling fans just want more power, money, and options for women’s wrestlers globally, focusing our collective attention on supporting STARDOM and all-women’s promotions both in Japan and other countries should be our primary goal.
Wrestling fans in the United States have a chance to support STARDOM directly over WrestleMania weekend, as the promotion announced that they will be running a show on Apr. 5 at 4:00 p.m. ET titled “American Dream 2019”.
STARDOM is arguably the most acclaimed wrestling promotion in the world, and several of their best performers have brought their talents to WWE, such as current SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka and former NXT Women’s Champion Kairi Sane. Currently, World Wonder Ring Stardom has some of the world’s biggest stars in Kagetsu, Momo Watanabe, Tam Nakano, Utami Hayashishita, and the incomparable Mayu Iwatani.
Those are among the talents wrestling fans can watch live in New York City over ‘Mania weekend, and wrestling fans can also support SHIMMER earlier on Apr. 5. They reminded fans that their show takes place at 11 a.m. ET on Apr. 5 at the La Boom, so there’s an opportunity to see both stalwart promotions on the same day.
WrestleMania 34’s week was insane in its own right, but WrestleMania 35’s events look that much better. The fact that wrestling fans are getting a chance to see STARDOM in New York City is massive, and any fans with the opportunity to head to NYC should strongly consider getting tickets to the event (link here and contained in tweet above).
As Evolution and WWR vs. The World showed in late October, women’s wrestling is at a point where it has “outsold” in popularity, and that speaks volumes about the quality of matches we’re witnessing. Anyone who has watched a STARDOM show – or even just a few clips on Twitter from a GIF account like @totaldivaseps – can attest to how mind-blowingly amazing the wrestling there is. Getting a chance to see performers like Mayu and Hazuki on a grand stage like WrestleMania weekend is a dream come true for many fans, particularly wrestling fans who have enjoyed Joshi promotions for years.
Not everyone can attend “American Dream 2019” on Apr. 5, but supporting STARDOM in any small way can make a difference. It means a lot to see STARDOM getting this spotlight during ‘Mania weekend, and I can’t wait to start covering STARDOM in 2019 with zeal. This is a huge year for women’s wrestling and for promotions like STARDOM and SHIMMER, so, again, every bit of positivity can go a long way in supporting the incredibly gifted, hard-working performers who regularly shine for these promotions.
