After capturing his first Intercontinental Championship on WWE Raw, Bobby Lashley deserves the opportunity to have a great run with the title.
WWE may have finally realized it. It took many months, and multiple so-called “comedy” angles to get here, but the company seems to have finally realized the immense talent Bobby Lashley has.
Lashley is perhaps the most gifted athlete on the entire WWE roster. He has a hulking physique, seemingly unlimited strength, and a surprising amount of speed and agility for someone his size.
You would be hard pressed to ever find a superstar like him, yet it seemed like WWE couldn’t see that when he first re-debuted in the company.
His angle with Sami Zayn was potentially the worst WWE feud of the year. It featured multiple segments that appeared to be built for a comedy act, and poorly built at that. Even with the most generous overview of these segments, it was painfully obvious they weren’t built for Bobby Lashley.
Now, however, it seems like WWE may have finally snapped back to reality. The company appears to realize forcing Lashley to work with horrible, and on some occasions tasteless, humor was not maximizing his full potential in any way. Instead, he should be given every opportunity possible to show exactly why he was known as “The Destroyer” in Impact Wrestling.
Fortunately, Lashley got just that opportunity in the triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship on Raw.
Lashley brutally spiked Seth Rollins with a spinebuster, threw Dean Ambrose into orbit with a belly-to-belly suplex, and nearly tore the reigning Intercontinental Champion in half with the best spear in pro wrestling.
There was no “humorous” bits, no Lio Rush screaming during the match, no pandering to the fans, nothing but Lashley showing off why he deserves a massive push.
Speaking of Lio Rush however, while his introduction as Lashley’s manager was questionable at best considering he almost made his matches unwatchable for awhile, it eventually turned out to be a blessing for the new Intercontinental Champion.
Lashley is a fine talker, he was able to pull off the cocky, confident heel in Impact for quite some time, but he’s never been exceptional. Its fairly obvious that Rush, on the other hand, could reach another level on the mic if also given the proper opportunity.
His partnership with Lashley has, and will, help him develop into a great talker, the Paul Heyman to Bobby Lashley’s Brock Lesnar so to speak. He’s been an instrumental part in helping Lashley move past his initial feuds to turn back into a main event level talent, by getting fans to connect with ‘The All Mighty’ in a way that WWE was unable to do without him.
All this means the stars have finally aligned for Lashley. He has the right gimmick, a great manager to shore up any of his perceived weaknesses, and now an actual title belt to tie it all together.

As a result, Bobby Lashley needs to have a long and impressive run with the Intercontinental Championship. He needs to be given the chance to tear through the entire Raw roster in what amounts to the role of the brand’s top champion, given Brock Lesnar’s frequent absences.
Lashley could easily be the unstoppable monstrous heel that WWE always wants Brock Lesnar to be, but seemingly can’t offer enough millions to secure on a weekly basis.
Lasley can, and should, become one of the most dangerous and dominant champions in WWE.
He can easily provide all the thrilling matches, electrifying brawls, and dominant performances of someone like Lesnar or Braun Strowman, except while performing on a nearly untouchable level far more consistently.
Bobby Lashley could have one of the most memorable runs with the Intercontinental Championship in recent memory. He has all the talent to pull it off, all he needs is the opportunity.
