With the Royal Rumble only days away, the road to WrestleMania will kick off in the biggest way possible with the most impactful night the road has to offer each year.
This year’s Royal Rumble is bound to shake things up like this pay-per-view has done for over 30 years now, but outside of the two Royal Rumble matches, this card offers up several other enticing matchups.
Several championships will be decided on a night that will change the WWE moving forward, but what are the biggest storylines surrounding this event? Let’s take a look at the three biggest storylines heading into WWE Royal Rumble 2019.
3. The Reemergence Of Edgy Sasha Banks
It wasn’t that long ago when one could make the argument that Sasha Banks was the top female superstar in all of WWE. She’s been a trailblazer for the recent women’s evolution over the past few years in the WWE, but her 2018 was anything but consistent.
The Boss is a four-time Raw Women’s Champion, but she spent most of 2018 feuding with and getting back together with Bayley to the point where fans were left unsatisfied with what could have been a top angle. However, the start of 2019 has seen Banks re-enter the Raw Women’s Championship picture where she will soon challenge The Baddest Woman On The Planet.
Ronda Rousey had one of the best first years of any superstar in WWE history, but she will get a big challenge at the Royal Rumble when she defends her title against The Boss. Banks has been flying a bit under the radar for several months now, but with her returning to a marquee position in a big championship match, it has brought back the edgy side of her always-confident demeanor.
Banks has taken offense to Rousey’s insinuations that she would be able to defeat Banks without a problem. They’ve been subtle and Rousey has a lot of respect for Banks, but it has brought back the fire that has been lacking in The Boss over the past several months. She’s starting to resemble that great champion from years past that fans grew to love, and that could spell trouble for Rousey’s title reign.
The Baddest Woman On The Planet is still the favorite, but don’t count out The Boss, who has refound herself as of late.
