Women of Wrestling: Tessa Blanchard Wins Title In Controversial Finish

Women of Wrestling delivered another fantastic show this week, but the finish to the main event was truly shocking, with Tessa Blanchard capturing the WOW Championship after critical interference from “The Beast”.

On last week’s episode of Women of Wrestling, Tessa Blanchard, Jungle Grrrl, and reigning champion Santana Garrett competed in an electric Triple Threat match that had the WOW fans on the edge of their seats. And the match ended in controversy when Jungle Grrrl hit her devastating splash on Blanchard, pinning “The Undeniable” with some help from Garrett, who pinned Blanchard’s legs.

David McLane addressed the controversial finish to begin this week’s episode of WOW, stating that the referees decided not to award the title to either woman as a result of the uncertain ending. Because Garrett had to tend to her father, whose oxygen tank tube was taken out by Blanchard weeks ago, she was unable to compete in a championship match tonight.

Blanchard took advantage of Garrett’s absence to win the title without having to face the strong, babyface champion. While she had to take on another tough opponent in Jungle Grrrl in this week’s main event, not having to contend with Garrett was a huge help for Tessa.

She took full advantage of it, too. Jungle Grrrl had all the momentum on her side, and she would have won the match if it weren’t for a referee bump. While the official was taken out, Jungle Grrrl hit her driver and splash before pinning Tessa for a good 10 seconds. She must have thought that the ref would return to consciousness by the time she hit her moves, but, alas, that wasn’t the case.

The match official did come to his senses later, but not after “The Beast”, who is one of Women of Wrestling’s most popular characters, made her presence felt. She’s clearly got her eyes on the title, and she speared Jungle Grrrl before powerbombing her, giving Blanchard the opening to pin Jungle Grrrl once the ref came to.

Tessa, naturally, capitalized, capturing the WOW Championship without Garrett even being involved – and by scoring a “dirty” pinfall win over the dominant Jungle Grrrl.

After Tessa’s victory, she and The Beast had a staredown, and that could very well be the main event match next week. However, Jungle Grrrl likely has something to say about this unfair loss, and the previous champion – and Blanchard’s main rival – Garrett will surely be back next week to make her own statement.

WOW has been extremely exciting since airing on AXS TV this year at 9 p.m. ET on Friday nights, and with Tessa winning the title in controversial fashion, next week’s episode will have a similarly must-seem main event storyline surrounding the promotion’s most coveted prize.
