MLW is one week out from Intimidation Games airing LIVE from Chicago headlined by a huge World Heavyweight Title rematch between Tom Lawlor and Low Ki in a steel cage. What’s in store this week on MLW Fusion on the last stop before the next live special?
Last week saw Teddy Hart retain the World Middleweight Title against MJF despite the challenger’s attempt to use a chair in the final moments of the match. After the bout, Hart was attacked backstage by MJF and new ally Richard Holliday as a means to exact some revenge on the leader of the Hart Foundation.
This week, MJF and Holliday will explain their actions on a show which will feature the MLW debut of Mance Warner and a lucha libre main event between the debuting Aerostar and Rey Horus!
Rich Swann vs Lance Anoa’i
At the onset of the match, the commentators explained that Swann had appealed his suspension and would be allowed to compete while the proceedings were underway. We got a Swann backstage promo leading into the match where he thanked the fans who had been faithful to him and insisted that wherever he went, the party went on all night long. He looked absolutely deranged in this quick piece.
Swann has completed the full turn to delusional heel in MLW taunting fans on the way to the ring.
Anoa’i scaled the top rope with hopes of connecting with a 450 splash but found nothing but canvas waiting for him below. Swann rolled him up with a grip on the ropes for leverage to put this one away.
How was it? Not bad, but it felt a bit slow at times. Anoa’i busted out some impressive dives and agility for a guy his size. Swann continued the spiral into disjointed madness sparked last week by his loss to Ace Austin and subsequent assault of a referee and two announcers. Where Swann goes from here with the suspension story is yet to be seen, but having another heel in the Middleweight division could spice things up a bit.
Lawlor Is Bringing A Blackout
In a pre-taped segment, Tom Lawlor delivered brief comments directed toward Low Ki ahead of their steel cage World Heavyweight Title Match last week. Lawlor implied that Ki’s media blackout since losing the championship was due to his uncertainty about being able to defeat Lawlor in a rematch.
Lawlor said that he had been preparing for cage fights his entire life and Low Ki would only have a month to prepare. In Chicago, Lawlor will look to bring his own version of a blackout to Ki.
The Most Marketable Duo
MJF was backstage for an interview to explain his actions from last week. He introduced his new partner in crime Richard Holliday who stood smugly behind MJF while he prattled on.
Aside from doing a spot-on Canadian accent, MJF talked up Holliday’s wholesome parents who had always been, and would always be, in love. The former World Middleweight Champion explained that Holliday came from a loving family rather than one of insanity and drug abuse like Teddy Hart.
He closed out by claiming that Stu Hart was spinning over and over in his grave knowing that MJF was better than Teddy. Ouch.
