Prior to the return of Roman Reigns, it seemed like the hottest news in WWE was about people leaving the company. One of the most notable was Dean Ambrose, but new reporting indicates his departure might not be as certain as once believed.

According to a report by Wrestling Inc., WWE recently updated which superstars are being advertised for events in May of this year. Roman Reigns was added to the names listed, but so was Dean Ambrose. Roman’s inclusion seems to confirm the belief he’ll be back in the mix as soon as possible, but the presence of Ambrose’s name conflicts with the reported end date of his WWE contract.

Update at 3:24 PM ET: Wrestling Inc. has since updated their report, noting that WWE has now removed Dean Ambrose from event listings in May. Their report does include images of Ambrose’s inclusion prior to removal.

Wade Keller of PWTorch reported at the end of last month that Ambrose would be leaving WWE shortly after WrestleMania. In a surprising change of course for a company that rarely comments on releases prior to the date of said release, WWE followed up by putting this statement on WWE.com.

"Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE."

The new reporting could be an early sign that Ambrose has worked out another deal or an extension with the company, but none of that is confirmed just yet. The obvious change since that news broke would be the return of Roman Reigns following another battle with leukemia that successfully sent the disease back into remission.

Last week on Raw, Ambrose found himself the victim of a 4-on-1 assault only to be saved by former Shield brothers Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. It was a powerful moment to see Roman Reigns delivering the Superman Punch and Spear once again, but it also saw a conflicted Dean Ambrose in the ring trying to process the moment.

More from Raw

It was surprising to some fans, as Dean Ambrose had not joined Roman Reigns on the ramp after the announcement of his cancer being in remission. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Dean Ambrose was so emotional backstage during that moment that he chose not to go out onto the ramp. The decision to have Reigns and Rollins save Ambrose was apparently made shortly after that.

Another bit of information that adds to this would be WrestlingNews.co’s reporting about Roman Reigns making a comment at a recent autograph signing. After being asked about Ambrose leaving WWE, Reigns reportedly said “we’re gonna work on that.”

It needs to be stressed again that, as of yet, there aren’t any confirmed reports that Ambrose has officially re-signed with the company, but all of this news together certainly indicates such a move is possible. Only time will tell if we’re about to see the last days of The Shield or the beginning of their next chapter, but Dean Ambrose will be one to watch on Raw in the comings weeks either way.
