The March 18 edition of WWE Raw saw more key focus put on the buildup towards the granddaddy of them all, WrestleMania 35, which takes place in just under three weeks.

Last night’s WWE Raw saw a couple of new WrestleMania developments and matches made, including Kurt Angle’s farewell match and a WWE Hall of Famer coming out of retirement for a shot at the Women’s Tag Team Championship.

The red brand can still do a better job of hyping up its share of WrestleMania matches, but there’s still intrigue to be found.  Let’s take a look at a few grades from the March 18 edition of WWE Raw.

4. Opening Segment

In less than three weeks at WrestleMania 35, the Universal Championship will be on the line when Brock Lesnar defends his title against 2019 men’s Royal Rumble match winner, Seth Rollins.  The Architect will be looking to become the Universal Champion for the first time, but it won’t be easy.

The Beast Incarnate has been Universal Champion since Crown Jewel and in the limited title defenses he has had since then, he has come out on top.  However, a couple of the title defenses against smaller statured superstars nearly resulted in losses to Daniel Bryan and Finn Balor, which Rollins pointed out last week.  But last night saw Paul Heyman address Rollins with his client standing by his side.

More from Raw

Lesnar and Heyman got booed loudly by the WWE universe in attendance, but it didn’t stop Heyman from getting his points across.  He said that even if Lesnar has struggled with smaller, quicker superstars such as Bryan, Balor, and AJ Styles, he still won all of those matches and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.  Heyman then addressed Rollins’ match with Drew McIntyre last night before The Scottish Psychopath came out to address it himself.

McIntyre, who took out both Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose with his actions last week, said he was going to do the same to Rollins.  However, The Architect wasn’t having any of it and he jumped McIntyre from behind with a steel chair.  He turned his attention towards Lesnar, but the Universal Champion backed off and wanted no part of Rollins.  This was a pretty loaded and stellar opening segment.

Business is set to pick up at WrestleMania between Lesnar and Rollins, but last night was key for the feud in its own right.

Final Grade: B+
