Chakara vs Erin Angel
North London’s own Chakara made her Pro Wrestling EVE return against perpetually peppy crowd favourite Erin Angel, and it’s safe to say Chakara was not best pleased about her choice of opponent. Referring to Angel as a ‘peasant’ (and prompting the crowd to chant “She’s Our Peasant!”), Chakara was breezily dismissive, utilising her height and power advantage to keep Angel down.
But Angel fought valiantly, and ultimately Chakara’s overconfidence saw her down for the count following a top rope splash. A fun and lively encounter with a classic heel/face dynamic – and it’s good to see Angel looking confident after sustaining several beatdowns at the hands of stroppy duo Millie McKenzie and Charli Evans.
Following the match, Pro Wrestling EVE Champion Kay Lee Ray stepped out to address the crowd. The Championship, Ray said, was not an easy ticket to Wrestle Queendom; she wants to fight for the title all the way up to Wrestle Queendom. And there is one person that Ray is yet to beat: Emi Sakura.
But none of that mattered to Jamie Hayter, who interrupted Ray’s address. “Tonight, at the main event of this show, I’m gonna do what you couldn’t. Jamie Hayter is going to beat Emi Sakura.” Unruffled and unimpressed, Kay Lee Ray managed a smirk as Hayter promised she’d see her at Wrestle Queendom. A hollow threat, or a promise?
But wait! There’s more. No sooner had Hayter departed than Nina Samuels made her way to the ring. The former EVE Champion soaked up the boos as she took to the mic: “I was cheated,” Samuels declared, of her match against Ray. “This is another edition of the Bethnal Green Screwjob.” Samuels reminded the crowd that, unlike Ray, she had beaten Emi Sakura.
Ray was quick to set the record straight: “The only reason you beat Emi Sakura is because Rhia O’Reilly stopped the match.” But Emi Sakura was a prelude to Samuel’s real purpose, and Ray was canny enough to know exactly what she really wanted. “At Kris Wolf’s retirement show. You’ve got your match.”
