Shawn Spears will have a legend in his corner at AEW’s “All Out” Pay Per View in August, as Tully Blanchard will be managing the former Tye Dillinger.

There’s no doubt that Shawn Spears has a point to prove in All Elite Wrestling, and he’s quickly become a major player in the promotion. At the all-important “AEW All Out” show on Aug. 31 in Chicago, Spears will take on one of the company’s executives in Cody Rhodes to further their rivalry. But he won’t have to face Cody alone.

On the first episode of “The Road to All Out”, AEW announced that Spears will be managed by Tully Blanchard, who is one of the original Four Horsemen. That is an absolute legend in Spears’s corner, and it will be exciting to see how Blanchard furthers the program between Spears and Rhdoes, including in the weeks leading up to the major Pay-Per-View.

The news of Blanchard managing Spears comes shortly after Fightful.com’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that the former WWE Superstar would be getting a manager for his match against Cody at “All Out”. Per WrestlingInc.com’s Marc Middleton, AEW have signed Blanchard as an “Exclusive Advisor” on a multi-day contract.

It looks like “Exclusive Advisor” is a jargon term for “manager”, but we’ll see exactly what Blanchard’s role with AEW will be.

Spears should benefit greatly from having an experienced manager by his side, but it will be interesting to see how much promo time he gets. There’s a common knock on WWE for constraining performers creatively, so fans are always curious to see how a former WWE wrestler does elsewhere in terms of promos and character work. So far, the early returns are good, but Spears was known as more of a fun, gimmick wrestler, as opposed to a great promo guy.

Perhaps he can change that perception at AEW. Either way, a feud with Cody and an association with Tully Blanchard gives Spears some huge rub, and his stock in wrestling has honestly never been higher than right now.
