The Jul. 29 edition of WWE Raw saw a big title change that comes just in time for SummerSlam in under two weeks courtesy of the once overlooked Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

Last night’s WWE Raw saw a triple threat tag team match take place with the Raw Tag Team Championship on the line when The Revival defended its titles against The Usos and The O.C., comprising of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, a team that had undeservedly been an afterthought in recent memory.

Since rejoining with the new heelish AJ Styles, Gallows and Anderson have started to look like their old selves and it showed last night.  This tag team match was a stellar one with great action from start to finish.  It went back and forth for so long with all three teams staking their claim as potential tag team champions.  It felt like The Revival might retain since SummerSlam is so close, but the WWE had other ideas.

The pace reached a frantic level towards the end and The O.C. took full advantage of it.  After The Usos took The Revival out of the picture, Gallows and Anderson struck and after hitting a Magic Killer, Gallows got the pin to win the Raw Tag Team Championship for his team.  This was a big moment for a team that had been creatively mistreated for far too long and the future of The O.C. looks to be a bright one.

Looking at it in terms of just Gallows and Anderson, it’s felt like ever since losing the Raw Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 33 back in 2017, they have been treated unfairly and not given a chance to succeed again.  This team has been considered one of the best tag teams in the business over the past few years, so seeing them sometimes rarely get TV time throughout the past couple of years was disappointing, to say the least.

It took two years for Gallows and Anderson to win tag team gold again, but better late than never some will say.  And not only was it a big win for their tag team, but it was also a big win for their trio featuring Styles as U.S. Champion.  Much like The New Day on SmackDown, Styles, Gallows, and Anderson have three title belts around their waist with the U.S. Championship and Raw Tag Team Championship.

This gives this trio a lot of momentum and in an era where stables are basically nonexistent in the WWE, this could be a great sign for the future of this trio.  Bigger things could be in the works for Styles, Gallows, and Anderson in the future with SummerSlam on the horizon where Styles is set to defend his title against Ricochet and don’t be surprised to see The O.C. defend the Raw Tag Team Championship at the biggest party of the summer as well.

The tag team division has started to find a little more traction in recent memory, so seeing Gallows and Anderson as tag team champions helps breathe even newer life into the division.  Paul Heyman has given tag team wrestling the respect it deserves in the past during his previous creative stints, so it’s safe to assume the same should be expected now.  Things are off to a good start, that’s for sure.

The Phenomenal One and The Good Brothers are aligned and on the same page, and that is a great sign for the future of the entire red brand in general.  Not to mention, seeing tag team gold around the waist of Gallows and Anderson is a sight for sore eyes after more than a two-year hiatus in between tag team title reigns.  The creative possibilities are strong for this trio and it should be interesting to see it play out.

It took too long, but The O.C. have finally gotten back to the level it deserved to be at for more than two years.
