AEW All Out: Shawn Spears vs. Cody made official
On the latest episode of Road to All Out, AEW announced that Shawn Spears will be taking on Cody Rhodes at All Out.
The entire episode focused on Spears arriving at the AEW Headquarters with Tully Blanchard and the contract concerning his match with Cody at All Out.
It opened with MJF cutting a promo against Shawn Spears, but still being heelish by clearly sucking up to Cody (including wearing a Pharaoh tie). Once we got to the Headquarters with Spears and Tully, they sat down and the lawyers for AEW tried to call Cody. Cody refused to answer the phone and was late for the meeting.
In the meantime, while they waited, Tully looked over the contract and wanted a change made. Cody had an entourage at All In that included Brandi Rhodes, Pharaoh, Diamond Dallas Page, and Tommy Dreamer. Tully wanted to make sure that only one person was allowed at ringside, and he promised that it would be just him and Shawn against Cody and his corner man.
Cody was then seen preparing to leave his house and took a car to the headquarters. He walked into the room, signed the contract without reading it, and walked out. Spears stood up and was ready to fight. Blanchard reminded him that they wanted to get the contract signed and the fighting will wait until Chicago. The graphic then aired for the match.
Here are some questions for us concerning this story: Was there any other provisions in the contract that Tully wanted? Did Cody sign the contract rashly, and will it come back to haunt him? Who will be in Cody’s corner? Will it be Brandi Rhodes, or will it be someone else that we didn’t expect? Maybe Arn Anderson, or even someone else related to the Horsemen?
There are a lot of questions answered, but more left on the table as we came to the conclusion of this episode of Road to All Out. All I can say is that if AEW television is anything like what we saw here, and I think it will be, we are in for some very compelling television.
We often hear, in terms of storytelling, that a story was good by wrestling standards. These stories are just plain good, by any standard. AEW All Out is going to be one heck of a show, and it can be viewed on B/R Live and Fite TV on August 31st.
