The IIconics ended their pedestrian Women’s Tag Team Championship reign with an elimination that was just as uneventful. It’s one of a string of decisions that further prove WWE needs a major rivalry to elevate the titles.

Despite the best efforts of some of the competitors in it, the women’s tag division is highly underutilized. The Women’s Tag Team Championship had so much potential when they were announced last December, but it has become clear WWE has no plans for them.

It’s a shame because the support is there, and there are plenty of possibilities

There just needs to be one big ongoing feud to bolster division and make the titles mean something. There is probably no better option on the table than Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs. The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection.

This rivalry writes itself. Sasha Banks and Bayley have shared a common enemy in Bliss since the summer of 2017.

Of course, there’s also the rumors about backstage tension between Banks and the self-proclaimed “Goddess of WWE.” Speculation was reignited by the infamous Raw after Mania this year where Sasha abruptly went on hiatus and Bliss blocked her on Twitter.

It’s still unclear what exactly happened that day, and why Sasha Banks has been MIA since, but Alexa is smack dab in the middle of it. Reports surfaced that The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection threw a tantrum on the locker room at WrestleMania 35 after they found out they would have to drop the titles. There hasn’t been any proof that suggests it actually happened, but Bliss playfully alluded to it on social media.

To further complicate things, Bayley faced and lost to Alexa that night in essentially a squash match. This created even more speculation. We may never find out what really happened, but it’s hard to deny there is some heat between the three of them.

Regardless if it’s all a work or not, there is something there and it would be foolish not to play off it in the future.

As a matter, WWE already planted some seeds for a renewed feud during the build to Extreme Rules. When Cross told Bayley to find some a friend who will have her back and talk some sense into her, everyone assumed Banks would return to help her.

Honestly, there was no need to play that card just yet. This could be a long-term plan because there’s more they can do with Bayley as SmackDown Women’s Champion.

However, there are so many reasons to revisit this feud later. Above all, Sasha and Bayley have unfinished business with the Women’s Tag Team Championship.

By all accounts, they were the ones who pushed to make them possible, and their reign as the inaugural champions didn’t live up to expectations. They never even received a rematch because Banks hasn’t been on WWE programming since WrestleMania.

Admittedly, one of the problems was the champions didn’t have a compelling opponent or storyline after they won the titles at Elimination Champion. The beauty of making Bliss and Cross the champions is that it immediately fixes that issue.

There is no other team that would work better as chasers for the new champions than The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection. There is just too much history here too ignore.

Even more, Nikki Cross isn’t just a third wheel in this situation. The storyline they’ve built between her and Alexa gives the feud even more depth. One would have to ask which team will implode first. That question, of which of the pairings are real friends, adds so much to this potential arc.

It’s anyone’s guess on when Sasha Banks will return to WWE, but when she does, this feud is tailor-made for her and Bayley. This is the best way to follow up on their tension with Alexa Bliss.

More importantly, a big feud and series of matches between these two team could be the perfect way to legitimize the women’s tag division.
