Riho (c) (5-1) vs. Britt Baker (3-1) – AEW Women’s World Championship

My computer was giving me trouble throughout the night, but I was able to recap most of this match. I saw the whole match, but was unable to take notes on all of it.

The match opened with Baker overpowering Riho several times, and going for Lockjaw early, but Riho escaped the move. Baker went for a suplex off the top rope, but Riho forced her off and hit a flying cross body. Riho bridged out and then nailed a dropkick. Riho hit a double stomp and a flying knee in the corner. She went for a slam, but couldn’t lift Baker, but managed to hit a vertical suplex.

Riho went for a footstomp off the top rope, but Britt rolled out of the way and then hit a sling blade. Britt hit a TKO and followed it up with running single leg dropkick for a near fall. Riho went for an inside cradle, but Britt stopped it and hit a Fisherman’s neckbreaker and a superkick for a 2 count.

Riho hit a Northern Lights suplex for a 2 and then locked on a single leg crab. Baker made the ropes, but Riho flew off the top rope with a double stomp to the back and got another 2 count. Riho hit the double knees to Britt’s back, and Britt kicked out again. Riho went for the knee strikes again, but Britt ducked and Riho smashed into the turnbuckle.

Baker tried to lock on Lockjaw, but Riho countered as Baker was trying to get the mandible claw and Riho was able to roll her up and pin her. Riho won by out wrestling Baker. Great stuff.

Result: Riho (6-1)

Rating: ***3/4 (3.75 stars)

This was an excellent match. Riho is becoming a huge star in this company, and she is the right one to be the ace of the division. Britt Baker is very green. She has a lot of potential, but she is far from ready for the top position. Riho has that special something that connects with the fans, as it is so easy to cheer her on. AEW made the right choice in pushing her, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next.
