As he promised before the show, Cody makes a career changing announcement.

Cody enters the ring to a racous ovation for an interview with Tony Schiavone. Tony mentions his AEW Championship match on Saturday vs. Chris Jericho, but he understands Cody has something heavy weighing on his heart right now.

Cody says Jericho’s arrival with The Inner Circle has been “blunt” and “strategic.” But Cody says they were looking for them, a challenge like this.

Before making his announcement, Cody said he wanted to rattle off a few legendary names, like Eddie Graham and Dusty Rhodes. The reason being and what the names have in common is that they were all “the best at the box office.” But there’s also a controversial thing about their success – they were bookers and part of management of their promotion. Much like Cody, who acknowledges he’s received the same criticisms. Though he still receives a “You deserve it!” chant.

With that said, Cody announces if he does not defeat Chris Jericho at Full Gear, he will never challenge for the AEW Championship ever again.

But Cody says that is a big “if” that will vanish. Cody acknowledges that Chris Jericho called him entitled, but they share “the same silver spoon” since Jericho had a famous hockey dad. “I call you a carny succubus,” Cody says, and “you need this business more than it needs you.” Cody says this isn’t about them or their fathers, this is about his family, his mother, his journey to going from undesirable to undeniable.

He says when The Elite and The Inner Circle meet in the ring, they will eat them alive.

Grade: A

What a promo. My colleague, Josiah MacDonald (the guy who usually writes these recaps) said during our podcast discussion that Cody may be the very best babyface in wrestling today and after this promo, I’m inclined to agree. Such a fantastic, passionate promo. Exactly the kind of raw intensity you want in a babyface promo and the kind of energy that makes you root for a babyface. Hell, suddenly, after doubting Cody was going to win this Saturday previously, now I’m dying to see him win that belt.
