AEW Dynamite: Results, Highlights and Grades for Nov. 6
Brandon Cutler vs. Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard)
Both men trade arm wrenches before Spears clotheslines Cutler off his feet, backing him into the corner with a 10 shoutout. Cutler showcases his agility to tease the 10 Man’s previous life. He then leg drops Spears across the bottom rope. He tries to pull Spears back in the ring by his neck, gets berated by Blanchard, and Spears takes advantage, driving him into the guardrail.
He tosses Cutler back into the ring, chopping him in the chest, but Cutler responds with kicks to the mid-section and to the head. But Spears recovers with a big Bicycle Kick, the a Death Valley Driver for the win.
After the match, Spears goes to hit another DVD on a chair, but Joey Janela makes the save running Spears out the ring. Spears tries to return with a chair, but his manager holds him back, hoping to strike another day.
Winner: Spears
Grade: C-
Nothing special. Nothing more than a squash, but both men looked good. Cutler especially, as someone I might’ve unfairly overlooked in the past, really impressed me tonight. Even in a small dose, this was the best performance I’ve seen from him.
We then get a great video hype package for Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega in a Lights Out Match for AEW Full Gear. As if I wasn’t excited for that match enough. This promo amped my excitement up to 11.
After that, main event time!
Kenny Omega and Hangman Page vs. Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho
Start of the bell, Sammy and Kenny start things up, but Omega says he wants Jericho instead, so Sammy tags the AEW Champion in. They tease a lock up, but Jericho tags Sammy right back in to a chorus of boos.
Omega and Sammy lock up instead, Omega forcing Kenny into the ropes, but Sammy hits a waist lock takedown, followed by a headlock. Kenny turns it into an arm wrench followed by a headlock. Sammy wrenches the arm again and takes him down for a one count. They take turns wrenching each others arms.
Sammy attempts a tag, but Kenny smacks Sammy in the back of the head, then chops the poor guy. He chops him a lot.
Kenny sends Sammy into the corner for a knee, then a backdrop before tagging in Hangman. The two babyfaces hit a double gut kick, then a Fame Asser from Kenny, followed by a Standing Shooting Star from Page for a two count. Page chops Sammy then knees his face before Sammy reverses a fireman’s carry into a boot to the face, but Hangman immediately recovers with a fallaway slam for a two count.
He goes for a suplex, only for Sammy to wiggle out, slap Hangman’s back, and make the tag to Jericho. Jericho runs into a big boto and some chops from Page. Into the corner, but Jericho reverses and hits a middle rope double axe handle, followed by some sucker punches to the face. Then a suplex before tagging Sammy, who immediately pins Page for a two count. He goes to suplex Page, but Page reverses with a suplex of his own.
Page goes to tag Kenny, but Sammy knocks him off the apron before tagging Jericho. Jericho getts the heat before Hangman reverses to force the double hot tag. Big comeback spot for Kenny.
Sammy gets back into this with a pele, then a springboard crossbody attempt, but catches a dropkick. Rolls to the outside, Omega teases a Terminator dive, but gets stopped by Jericho. Kenny retaliats with a hurricanrana. He attempts another dive, but Jake Hager clobbers Kenny Omega behind the back and behind the ref’s back. The heels are back into this before we go to one final commercial break.
Back from the break, heels keep the heat on Kenny, but Kenny fights back and finally gets the tag to Hangman, who makes a fiery comeback, which includes a dive onto Sammy outside and a Lariat on Jericho.
Hangman attempts his finisher, but Jericho reverses into a Liontamer attempt, but Hangman reverses and clotheslines Jericho out the ring. Chaos ensues. Bodies and dives everywhere.
Hangman tosses Jericho back in, and sets up a Buckshot Lariat, but PAC low blows Hangman behind the ref’s back. Jericho capitalizes with a Judas Effect for the win.
Heels beat up the faces after the bell, but Cody runs in for the save. Hager and Jericho run out, but Cody uppercuts Sammy out the ring. Jericho and Hager think they’re safe up the ramp until MJF hits them both with chairs. MJF tosses Jericho back in and Cody nails him with a Cross Rhodes before raising the title above his head.
Suddenly, Jon Moxley arrives with a barbed wire bat to stare down Kenny Omega. Omega suddenly has his barbed wire broom.
This allows Inner Circle to get the jump on Cody and MJF. Meanwhile, Ortiz and Santana run in to lay out Kenny and Moxley, but the Young Bucks make the save to Superkick Ortiz and Santana. Fighting everywhere as refs struggle to break things up.
Ortiz and Santana go to powerbomb the Bucks off the ramp through a table, but Moxley and Kenny lay them out before going at each other. Brawling up the ramp before Nick Jackson dives onto everyone in sight, including the cameraman!
Babyfaces and heels stare each other down with the refs standing between them. They all brawl once more all over the place before sending us off the air.
Winners: Inner Circle
Grade: B
Good tag match and both the match and post-match angles were good ways to sell everyone on the PPV.
Overall Grade: B+
Save for a few hiccups, this was a big step up from last week’s episode (which many admit was the worst episode of Dynamite yet). In contrast, this was a very, very, very good episode with some great stuff.
