5. Chris Jericho will retain his AEW World championship

Before I dive into my rationale, a tremendous round of applause goes to the AEW World champion Chris Jericho, and his challenger Cody Rhodes.

The two men have left me, and nearly every one following this story, speechless. The back and forth promos, backstage brawls and brilliant game of wrestling chess have left us wanting more of this feud when this match ends.

With all of that being said, Cody Rhodes has stated he will never challenge for the AEW World title ever again if he loses on Saturday. The pressure he has put on himself is tenfold and now he leads us to believe that he is leaving Baltimore with the AEW championship.

Not so fast.

At AEW Full Gear, Chris Jericho will be celebrating his 49th birthday on the day of the event. AEW made the correct decision putting the title on Le Champion, as he has done some of his best promo work ever.

That is a huge statement, but it’s undeniably true. What he has lost with his in-ring ability (very little), he’s made up for with his phenomenal character work.

The 60 minute time limit is in play and judges will be at ringside if it indeed makes the full length. I don’t think anyone believes this is going the distance. What we are going to witness is a classic, throwback match between 2 of the very best in-ring psychologists today.

Jericho has been putting on these types of clinics for 20 years. Cody has become the best in professional wrestling when it comes to his old school style of grappling. Look back to his NWA title match with Nick Aldis and his incredible match with Dustin Rhodes at Double Or Nothing as proof.

This match will go a little beyond 30 minutes. Whoever the ref is will get inadvertently knocked out. Jake Hagar will come in and try to intervene. Cody will manage to escape. MJF will run down to aid Cody. As Jericho is being held by Cody, MJF will pick up a chair and accidentally hit Cody with it after Jericho ducks out-of-the-way. Hagar will take care of MJF after he tries to assist Cody in regaining consciousness.

Jericho will proceed to revive the ref, hit Cody with the Judas Effect and retain his AEW World championship. Controversy will reign for a bit and MJF will apologize to Cody.

Eventually, there will be a ‘Match Beyond’ scenario coming in the near future where Cody will earn back his title shot as a stipulation built into the match.
