AEW Dynamite: Results, Grades, and Analysis for November 20, 2019
Darby Allin was walking around at a concert with a body bag with Mox’s name on it. He crawled into it and was body surfed around the concert. This was quite cool. A bunch of people brought Allin out in the bag, and he unzipped it and sat up to a huge pop from the crowd. Allin boarded down the ramp while holding the body bag. This guy is a star.
Darby Allin (4-3-1) vs. Jon Moxley (2-1-1)
Darby Allin immediately dove through the ropes and attacked Mox. Mox and Allin brawled into the crowd. Mox went to back suplex Allin on the barricade, but Allin flipped backwards over it and then dove onto Mox and started punching him. Mox grabbed Allin in a fireman’s carry and then threw him over the guardrail and drove him into the apron.
Mox threw him into the ring and corner charged, but Allin hit a boot and then a shotgun dropkick before going to the top rope and going for a crossbody, but Moxley shrugged him off. Mox hit a shotgun dropkick of his own that drove Allin back into the corner. Moxley threw Allin into the corner and laid down on the top rope like Shawn Michaels used to.
Mox threw him again and then stomped on Allin’s hand. Allin stood up and ran at Moxley and started punching, but Moxley hit a swinging backbreaker for a 2 count. Moxley hit a few chops, and Allin was left laying on the mat. Moxley stomped on Allin’s stomach and then locked on a Texas Cloverleaf. Moxley let go of the submission and transitioned to an STF.
Allin was left carrying the full weight of Mox as he dragged himself to the ropes. Allin managed to float over Moxley in the corner and Allin hit a crossbody on Moxley against the ropes and both men went to the floor. Allin drove Moxley into the steps, as Allin was relentless in trying to fight back and win.
Allin smashed Mox’s hand into the steps and then dropkicked Mox off the apron. Allin went to the top rope, but Moxley cut him off and went to suplex him to the floor! Allin blocked and stepped on Moxley’s hand. Moxley shoved Allin off the top rope and sent Allin crashing to the mat. That was ugly.
Moxley went for a suplex, but Allin grabbed Mox’s hand and Mox had to let go. Mox kicked him and hit a throwing suplex. Mox slapped Allin on the floor and grabbed the body bag, but Allin hit a suicide dive onto Mox. Allin rolled Mox into the ring and brought the body bag with him. Mox turned him inside out with a lariat and put Allin in the body bag.
Moxley stopped on Allin as he was in the bag, and the referee tried to get Allin out of it. Mox eventually let him, and Allin bit Moxley’s hand and hit a flipping stunner, but Moxley responded with a Black Hole Slam. Moxley went for the Paradigm Shift, but Allin flipped out of it and drove Mox into the ring post and rolled him up for a 2.
Allin hit the Code Red for a 2 count. Allin went to the top rope and went for the Coffin Drop, but, Moxley countered and caught him in a rear naked choke. Allin rolled backwards into a pinfall attempt, but Moxley kicked out. Allin and Mox went to the corner, and Mox bit him and then hit an Avalanche Paradigm Shift for the win! HOLY CRAP.
Result: Jon Moxley (3-1-1)
Rating: ****1/4 (4.25 stars)
Darby Allin had another star making appearance, so when he finally wins the big one, it is going to be so sweet. Moxley is an absolute superstar. Everything he does is so over, and he’s treated like a true mega star. Moxley said to the camera that he was at the top of the food chain as the show faded to black.
Overall Rating: ****1/2 (4.5 stars)
This was another excellent episode of AEW Dynamite. Several stories advanced, from Britt Baker looking more and more frustrated at her inability to finish Hikaru Shida, to the Young Bucks feud with Santana and Ortiz. Omega cut a great promo, and we got hints of Jericho/Omega down the line with Jericho using Omega’s catchphrase.
Scorpio Sky came across as a huge star and he went toe to toe with Chris Jericho. Jericho was just incredible, as usual. The Inner Circle came across as completely hateable heels. We know the Dark Order is a cult that targets the down and out people of society, which can lead to a lot of interesting feuds, I think. We also saw Jon Moxley announce that he is the man in AEW, and we saw Darby Allin come across as a huge star.
So many stories were advanced tonight, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. The main event of AEW Dynamite next week is Scorpio Sky and Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship, and I will not miss it for the world. AEW has done a very good job of building long term stories and giving us payoff. Jericho, after he won the AEW World Championship, said in a promo as he walked backstage that Scorpio Sky would never get a title shot.
Then he pinned Jericho as one half of the AEW World Tag Team Champions. Sky not only proved Jericho wrong, but he earned himself a shot at the AEW World Championship. This is also why I don’t think it was an accident that Jericho used Omega’s catchphrase in his promo. AEW is planting seeds that will pay off later, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
