Braun Strowman has been one of WWE’s biggest homegrown success stories over the last five years, while Keith Lee has all the tools to become one of the biggest stars in the company. So why wouldn’t you want to see these two men go at it?

WWE SmackDown had the REAL go-home show to Survivor Series and the show’s closing angle certainly didn’t disappoint.

Closing angles for “Big 5” Pay-Per-Views (I’m still not used to calling it the “Big 5” instead of the “Big 4!”) are about hype, intensity and craziness. And we pretty much got all three last night.

The lasting image, however, was a staredown between Braun Strowman of SmackDown and Keith Lee of NXT. You know, the present vs. the future.

And when the legendary “WWE on FOX” Twitter account tweets it out, you KNOW it’s good.

Strowman has been one of WWE’s biggest stars since breaking out as singles star in late 2016 at a time when he was making Sami Zayn’s life a living hell. Since then, Strowman’s had acclaimed rivalries with Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns, faced Brock Lesnar a couple of times, and even had an adorable partnership with Alexa Bliss in the Mixed Match Challenge.

Basically, Strowman is the kind of guy you want to beat if your intent is to make a name for yourself in WWE. Whenever he goes toe-to-toe with a big man, magic happens.

And Keith Lee? He isn’t just any big man. He’s limitless.

Lee first caught the attention of a lot of eyes after having a barnburner on the indies against Dominik Dijakovic (fka Donovan Dijak), who is also plying his trade in NXT. But between the two of them, Lee has more star potential. His chemistry, agility, and in-ring IQ are tremendous, and he has a wrestling style that is unique to everybody else’s in WWE.

After this showdown with Strowman, fans will be glued to their screens on Sunday for the inevitable exchanges between Lee and Strowman in the five-on-five Men’s Elimination match. While Team NXT’s five members have not been announced yet (as of this writing), it would be a massive disappointment if Lee weren’t involved, especially after how excited fans were to see him on SmackDown again.

WWE fans clearly know who Lee is and understand his quality. There is a widespread belief that Lee can be a true superstar in wrestling, as he’s shown that he has the “It” factor both in NXT and on the independent scene before signing. And for their part, it looks like WWE understand and are willing to embrace The Limitless One’s skills.

But we want more than just some exchanges between Strowman and Lee at Survivor Series after Lee pulls double duty at TakeOver: WarGames III.

No, we want a MATCH. Lee vs. Strowman would be an absolute battle that would fully showcase Lee’s skills to a widespread audience. There should be more crossover between NXT and the main roster due to this Wednesday night ratings’ battle (it is NOT a “war”, and I refuse to engage in the age old American tradition of calling every little thing a damn “war”) with AEW.

Lee vs. Strowman would be an attraction as an event and an absolute clinic of a match. Add it to your list of dream matches and join the legions of us who were not-so-subtly marking out during SmackDown when the staredown took place.
