Although CM Punk is working in wrestling strictly as a FOX news analyst covering WWE news, Vince McMahon doesn’t want his wrestlers teasing match-ups with “The Best in the World” that he might not be able to deliver to the audience.

CM Punk isn’t working for WWE, but fans have gotten the next best thing with his current deal as a commentator on FOX’s WWE Backstage show.

Because of this, as Renee Young joked, the “So you’re telling me there’s a chance?” meme is in everyone’s minds. Punk and Seth Rollins, for example, have been using social media and other venues to tease a potential dream match between the former WWE and ROH Champions.  Granted, it’s been mostly Rollins using Punk’s name recognition to garner attention for a rivalry, but, hey, it’s been working.

On the most recent episode of Raw, Rollins called out Punk in a heel promo (yes, he’s heel now). Then, in an interview with 103.5 KISS FM, he implored fans to help him get “The Voice of the Voiceless” out of his studio seat and in the ring:

"“Let him know you want to see him on Raw. Let him know you want to see him in a ring. Let him know you don’t want to see him behind a desk hiding in Los Angeles.”"

Afterwards, Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio, via WrestlingInc.com’s Daniel Yanofsky, that Vince McMahon was “furious” with Rollins for talking about Punk on Raw.

But why was Vince so mad about Rollins bringing his social media feud with Punk to the ring and making exciting statements that generate a great deal of interest from wrestling fans? Shouldn’t he be cool with this?

Per Meltzer, via Cageside Seats’s Rumor Roundup, it’s because Vince doesn’t want to tease matches that aren’t planned.

There’s no guarantee CM Punk can get back in the ring, based on information Punk has told us about his deal with FOX and the lack of an olive branch from WWE for an in-ring return. (Let alone any explicit interest from Punk to return to the ring to face Rollins, whom he’s cooly dissed in promos on the show.)

So I guess Vince doesn’t want Rollins or any other wrestlers  – AJ Styles recently dissed Punk and his chanters – frenzying the crowd for a match that won’t happen.

Next. Here are 3 possible rivalries for Kenny Omega. dark

But I’m a conspiracy theorist like R-Truth. I think Vince wants all this to happen, WWE has a dream match with Rollins planned against Punk at some point in 2020, and all of these leaks and name-drops are done to hype us up on purpose.

At least, I prefer that narrative because it makes me excited, and I like it when wrestling works me up like this. So don’t give up on your dream matches, no matter how furious Vince reportedly is. (With the caveat that you, as always, respect CM Punk’s wishes and boundaries.)
