Vince McMahon is reportedly high on WWE NXT Superstars Keith Lee and Matt Riddle, and it seems like he sees a little bit of Shawn Michaels in the latter.

There is no doubt that Matt Riddle and Keith Lee are ticketed for greatness in WWE. Even before signing with NXT, Lee and Riddle were two of the biggest names in wrestling on the independent scene, as both men had meteoric ascents before signing with the world’s largest wrestling promotion.

Lee has been in the spotlight recently. On the SmackDown before Survivor Series, he had a staredown with Braun Strowman to close the show, causing Twitter to stir. Then, Twitter flat-out went crazy at Lee’s star-making performance at Survivor Series, as he was NXT’s last man standing. He went face-to-face with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins before Reigns eventually won the match for Team SmackDown.

However, Lee isn’t the only wrestler in NXT that WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon is high on. Per a report from WrestlingNews.Co’s Paul Davis, Vince has compared Matt Riddle to a “young Shawn Michaels,” possibly because of Riddle’s wonderful social media spats with wrestling icon Goldberg.

Riddle defeated another legend of the industry in Kassius Ohno in mere seconds on his TakeOver debut, immediately establishing himself as THE future star on WWE’s Third Brand. The King of Bros generates buzz in whatever he does, wrestling barefoot, pulling off impossible counters, and carrying himself with the attitude of a young Michaels.

In the WrestlingNews.Co report, a source within the company told Davis that he thinks Riddle will be a future World Champion and that “his personality will get him far.”

Both statements seem like safe assertions. It would be a shock if Riddle didn’t hold a world title multiple times in WWE, given his star status on the indies and MMA and amateur wrestling backgrounds. The man just gets pro wrestling, is an incredible athlete, and has been a sponge when it comes to bettering himself in and out of the ring.

A comparison to Michaels, who is arguably WWE’s greatest male in-ring performer ever, is certainly flattering. Perhaps Riddle has picked up some valuable tips from Michaels in NXT, since The Heartbreak Kid has played a key role in the brand’s development as a coach.
