AEW executive vice president spoke candidly about how he was originally booked to win the Money in the Bank briefcase in WWE not once, but twice.

Since founding AEW and working for the company both in front and behind the camera over the last year, Cody Rhodes has found a vast amount of post-WWE success.

However, even with all of this success, it is hard for Cody not to have some sour grapes in regards to how his WWE career turned out. Specifically, when it comes to two specific life changing moments he would have been afforded if not for some last minute mind changes.

During an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Cody spoke openly about his time with WWE. McCarthy admitted that he thought Cody deserved to win the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2013. That is when The American Nightmare decided to spill the beans about some backstage info he was told.

While Cody clarifies that he’s “so far removed now” from his time with WWE and holds no grudges, there are two instances in WWE that he’s still a little bit annoyed about that explains why he gets “spicy” about WWE from time to time: he was supposed to win Money in the Bank in 2013 and 2012.

“Two years in a row, I was told in advance I was winning Money in the Bank,” Cody explained. “And both times, it changed on the day. On the actual day.”

Cody suggests that what makes those two moments so bittersweet and etched in his brain for him is that those were, essentially, life changing decisions that he was prepared to tackle. Decisions that could have changed his career for the better. And yet, they were gone from his grasp in an instant.

“You have to have very thick skin in wrestling and sometimes, mine’s not that thick,” he adds.

It is hard not to feel bad for Cody in these instances, but thankfully, he has been able to move on to much greater success in his new life with AEW. We’ll see what he’s up to later tonight on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, airing at 8 p.m. sharp on TNT.
