Despite recent rumors suggesting that WWE may be cross with Cain Velasquez, the former UFC star may have a rematch with Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble 2020 next month.

It was just the other day we reported that Cain Velasquez could very well have heat with WWE after Tom Colohue revealed on his Sportskeeda approved podcast – Dropkick DiSKussions – that he learned some very important people backstage were not happy that the  former UFC fighter did not disclose his knee injury with them prior to signing a contract.

In addition, we reported yesterday news that the former UFC Heavyweight Champion has been booked for the Royal Rumble event next month. Coincidentally, so his Brock Lesnar as he is expected to defend his WWE Championship at the Pay-Per-View. Maybe these two things are not such a coincidence after all.

Now, Colohue – this time in his candid and untitled YouTube series – addresses some new rumors that have been brought to his attention suggesting that Cain Velasquez actually could be facing Lesnar in a rematch for the title at next month’s PPV.

“Brock needs to wrestle someone. There isn’t a storyline so far,” Colohue points out in his video. “We’ll have to see how that plays out. That will probably start to be built after the Christmas season in the new year shows … so whoever he will be feuding with, whether it be with someone like Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, or Cain Velasquez, we will see as that time comes.”

Readers may mistake these for being conflicting reports, but truth be told, both instances could turn out to be true. WWE may very well be annoyed about not being filled in about Velasquez’s injury, but understand the value his name offers to their brand too much to hold him back over backstage politics.

It wouldn’t be the first time, as a more infamous (albeit extreme) example is Vince McMahon allowing Ultimate Warrior to compete at SummerSlam 1991 back in the 80’s despite their own backstage grievances and moments before he sent Warrior release papers after the match.

Cain Velasquez is undoubtedly a marquee name in the sports world and regardless of how anyone in WWE personally feel about him, they’re surely smart enough to recognize his value and will push him to reap the rewards that come with working with him.
