WWE NXT has always been willing to experiment, and their latest creative tweak could involve two wrestlers who have spent time with 205 Live teaming up together on the Black and Gold brand.

The year 2019 was a massive one for WWE NXT. Not only did Triple H’s brand continue to raise the bar at their TakeOver specials, but they also began broadcasting on the USA Network. Former Raw and SmackDowns stars like Finn Balor and Tyler Breeze joined the brand, with the likes of AJ Styles, Asuka, and Kevin Owens making one-off appearances, too. Furthermore, NXT was established as an equal brand to Raw and SmackDown by winning Survivor Series.

More big things should be ahead for the Black and Gold brand in 2020, as NXT superstars are rumored to be big winners over Royal Rumble and WrestleMania weekend.

Although this isn’t a big chance, NXT is reportedly about to add another former “main roster” (technically, NXT IS the main roster now, of course) in Mike Kanellis. He recently competed in an NXT live event after his hiatus, leading to speculation that he has joined the brand.

PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson is reporting that Kanellis and another former 205 Live star in Tony Nese have been tagging together this weekend at NXT live events. Per Johnson, the brand is testing out Nese and Kanellis as a potential tag team that could compete on Wednesday nights going forward.

Kanellis hasn’t been given much room to shine in the ring since joining WWE, but 205 Live fans know that Nese is capable of great things. He’s a former Cruiserweight Champion, but his best work has arguably been in tag teams. Nese had particularly good chemistry with Buddy Murphy and the Lucha House Party in these types of matches.

NXT could always use more bodies in the tag division, and Kanellis and Nese could be a unique, throwback pairing that have the in-ring experience to put on a good match with anyone on the brand. Consider this a development worth watching closely, especially as NXT looks to continue producing quality tag wrestling on Wednesday nights opposite All Elite Wrestling.
