There are only three unannounced spots left in the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match, and John Cena is one of the big names who could conceivably show up as a surprise entrant for one of those final slots.

Whereas the Women’s Royal Rumble match has only a relative few competitors officially announced, leaving open the possibility for no shortage of surprises, the Men’s Rumble only has three unannounced entrants heading into Sunday evening’s show.

John Cena loves teasing wrestling fans before a major WWE Pay Per View. For example, he teased a match with Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 35 last year. He also teased a possible match at TLC last month, even though such a swerve was unlikely.

But Cena could conceivably return to the Royal Rumble this year and kick off his road to WrestleMania 36, with plenty of speculation abound regarding his potential role at the Show of Shows this year.

To fuel the speculation of a Rumble return, Cena posted a photo of the 2018 Royal Rumble, which was his last appearance in the match. He finished in the “Final Four” with Shinsuke Nakamura, Roman Reigns, and Finn Balor, with Nakamura eventually eliminating Reigns to win the bout.

Cena is such a tease, right?

He isn’t the only big name that fans have their eyes on as a possible Rumble surprise in Houston. CM Punk and Edge are in rumors, with plenty of smoke linking Edge to a shocking return, regardless of how unlikely it seems to be due to his neck injury.

Other potential Rumble surprises include Ronda Rousey, who debuted at the 2018 Rumble and competed in a Match of the Year candidate with Sasha Banks at the 2019 Rumble Pay Per View.

Ruby Riott, Naomi, Jinder Mahal, and Nia Jax are among a handful of potential returns from injury at this year’s Rumble.

So if Cena doesn’t show up, there should be PLENTY of surprises in store for WWE fans. But given how beloved Cena is, especially now that fans understand everything he’s contributed to wrestling over the years, he’d get a crazy pop at Minute Maid Park if this teaser comes true.
