Since today is the day that WWE airs their 33rd Royal Rumble, let us talk about exactly why the Royal Rumble the company’s most exciting Pay-Per-View.

The Royal Rumble is my favorite Pay-Per-View. In fact, I think it is the very best, most exciting PPV that WWE has to offer. Yes, that includes WrestleMania.

I know, I know, to say anything is better than WrestleMania sounds like a blasphemous statement. Almost like preferring the Orange Bowl to the Super Bowl or liking the NBA All Star Game more than the NBA Playoffs series. But let me explain …

More from Royal Rumble

If WrestleMania is the Super Bowl, then WrestleMania is essentially the finish line. The end of the big calendar year. We watch it to see our favorite WWE Superstars achieve their goals in matches with months worth of build up.

Meanwhile, the Royal Rumble is the starting point that gets us to that finish point. It is the first place where those matches take shape and we see seeds of the Mania card slowly begin to plant. And that’s what makes the Rumble so excited.

We tune in to the annual January PPV to see how the card takes place. To see who is one step closer to achieving immortality in The Show of Shows main event, punching themselves a ticket with a win in the Royal Rumble match. Which, don’t even get me started on the match themselves.

Whether we are talking about the men’s version of the match or the women’s side of things, you’d be hard pressed to try and argue how it’s not exciting to see 30 bodies in the ring fighting for a shot at glory at WrestleMania with a handful of those bodies being a surprise assortment of legends and unpredictable names.

Even when WrestleMania does not live up to its usual expectations, the Royal Rumble has something for everyone to indulge in.

There is a reason why the Royal Rumble has been a staple of WWE programming for as long as it has and why fans eagerly anticipate the PPV three decades later. It’s just that exciting.
