AEW and NXT Wednesday Night War: 3 winners of night #18
This week’s best of the Wednesday Night War is highlighted by a Nyla Rose promo, Jeff Cobb’s debut, and Cody being an awesome babyface.
It’s time to once again sift through everything NXT and All Elite Wrestling (AEW): Dynamite offered and pick the three (or more) wrestlers (or whoever) who stood out the most on either program. But before we get to that, here are some honorable mentions:
“Hangman” Adam Page and Kenny Omega: In what was the best match on either show, Page and Omega successfully defended their AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Lucha Bros. (Pentagon & Fenix). Based on this week’s Being The Elite, the Page heel turn is still in the plans — they even teased some more dissension between Page and Omega in this match, which led to a great nearfall — but the ride to get there has still been fun.
Bianca Belair: Had this been anyone other than Belair, I would’ve rolled my eyes at NXT going full main roster by referencing something that happened a decade ago. But “The EST” made it work as she interrupted the Chelsea Green/Kayden Carter match to issue a challenge to Charlotte Flair.
Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake): The former NXT UK Tag Team Champions looked good in their enhancement win over Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde. Unfortunately, it looks like their about to enter a feud with Nyquil Knights themselves, The Forgotten Sons, that’s centered around one-dimensional patriotism.
The Broserweights (Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle): Sadly, the “Stallion Cup” failed the Wellness Test, but Dunne and Riddle persevered and fended off Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan in a fun, hard-hitting match.
Matt Jackson: The elder Jackson brother turned in an impressive performance that made an entertaining battle royal quite good toward the end (be sure to look up the superkick he hit on an interfering Sammy Guevara during the closing moments). His win earned him and his brother Nick a tag team title shot against Omega and Page at Revolution.
