Angel Garza has been hitting his stride in WWE since late 2019. He’s going to have a breakout 2020.

Since making his debut on Monday Night RAW, Angel Garza has been drawing comparisons to the late Eddie Guerrero. He faced off against his real life cousin, Humberto Carrillo, in a vicious attack. Rey Mysterio came to Carrillo’s aid, which led to a match with Garza, who DDT’d Mysterio on the concrete floor. Just two days later, Garza defeated Isaiah “Swerve” Scott on NXT.

Last summer, Garza made his debut in the NXT Breakout Tournament, where he made it to the semi-finals. In August, he debuted on 205 Live. He made sporadic appearances on the purple brand and ultimately began a weeks long feud with Carrillo.

If you watched 205 Live during this time, you could play a drinking game every time it was mentioned that they were cousins (spoiler alert: you’d be blitzed by the end of the match).

Garza entered into a feud with Lio Rush that was fantastic. On Dec. 11, 2019, Angel Garza bested Rush to become the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion. After the match, Garza brought his girlfriend to the ring. During the commercial break, Garza surprised everyone by proposing. Although he lets female fans kiss his cheek pre-match, he is taken (despite what Zelina tried to assert this past Monday).

Garza’s title reign was short-lived. At Worlds Collide on Jan. 25, Garza defended his title against Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Travis Banks and Jordan Devlin. In a surprising twist, Devlin became the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion. Although Garza lost, he’s seemingly on to bigger and better things.

Aligning Garza with Zelina Vega is brilliant. He can carry on with what Andrade was doing before his suspension. In less than a month, El Latino Esta En La Casa has started to make a name for himself, especially among viewers that don’t watch 205 Live or NXT.

He is brash, charismatic and an excellent wrestler (or Superstar, if you prefer). Garza is versatile in that he can do high-flying action, but can hang with mat-based wrestlers. Garza doesn’t need Vega’s help to win anything, but he takes advantage of her services because he can. Sound familiar?

With Andrade returning at Super ShowDown, it’s safe to assume that Garza will be back to only competing on Wednesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays are crowded and Friday nights need him, but Garza is too hard to deny.

He is ready to be a permanent fixture on Monday nights. Vega could expand her clientele by retaining her services with Garza. Both Garza and Andrade have unfinished business with Carrillo and Mysterio. Could we see them team up at Elimination Chamber to take on their common foes?

Garza could branch off on his own to face guys like Murphy, Akira Tozawa and Cedric Alexander. He could easily stand toe-to-toe with guys like Seth Rollins, AJ Styles and Randy Orton. Garza has already shown that he has the chops, he just needs to be invested in like the star he is and the one he will become.
