AEW and NXT Wednesday Night War: 3 winners of night #19
An instant classic Ironman match, a contentious interview segment, and a championship weigh-in highlight this week’s best of the Wednesday Night War.
Another week of head-to-head competition between NXT and All Elite Wrestling (AEW): Dynamite has come and gone, which means it’s time to once again pick three (or more) wrestlers from either show and shower them with praise for their efforts on the microphone, in the ring, or for both. But before that happens, here are some honorable mentions:
Orange Cassidy: Thus far, we’ve only gotten a taste of that the super-lax comrade of Trent and Chuck Taylor can do, but we will finally see in an official singles match at Revolution when he faces PAC. If you believe Taylor, Cassidy is actually “gonna try” in this match, so here’s what him giving a modicum of effort looks like.
Tegan Nox: It’s ridiculous that the NXT creative team booked two steel cage matches for next week’s show, but the Dakota Kai/Tegan Nox one received some good hype in the form of Nox’s short-but-sweet promo on this week’s NXT.
Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson): Drake and Gibson pulled off two improbable feats on this week’s NXT: They got the fans to cheer for the Benadryl Bandits (The Forgotten Sons) with a cheap heat promo straight from the 80s and produced an entertaining match with them. This “USA vs. UK” storyline is trash, but kudos to them for making the most of it.
Cameron Grimes: Another great showing for the former Trevor Lee, as he pinned Dominik Dijakovic in a very good match.
