Becky Lynch admitted she was disappointed the last time she wrestled Shayna Baszler. Now, the Queen of Spades must redeem herself at WWE WrestleMania 36.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated (h/t WrestlingNews.Co), WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch reflected on the last time that she wrestled Shayna Baszler. To be more specific, it may be best to say that The Man reflected on her disappointment in the match itself.

For those who can’t remember, the last time (or, rather, the very first time) the two squared off, it was in the main event of Survivor Series and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley stood in between them for a Triple Threat. Representing NXT at the time, Baszler came out victorious by submitting Bayley in her first appearance on an official WWE Pay-Per-View.

Per Sports Illustrated, Lynch admitted that the match “did not meet the standards for a main event.” And most critics would agree.

To their credit, this is not an indictment of the participants in the match, especially since they are all tremendous athletes in their own right and the match itself had to bounce off of high expectations from a night of several stellar matches earlier in the night.

However, the fact that this was Baszler first PPV match AND main event, and for the bout itself to amount to 18 minutes of disappointment is, well, disappointing. It certaintly wasn’t a good look for her as reports surfaced of even Vince McMahon doubting Baszler’s ability. Baszler’s first match on Raw also received a similar, disappointing, lukewarm reaction.

While Lynch did not say she doubted Baszler’s ability, expressing her own disappointment highlights the doubts that critics have expressed towards Baszler most recently. Rather than be chagrined by the response, this should motivate Baszler to deliver a WrestleMania worthy performance this weekend.

In Lynch’s own words, “If you ever have a bad night or a match that people don’t agree with, you’re the one out there that has to change and adjust. It makes you better in the long run.”

Baszler might’ve had a couple bad nights these past few months, but we know for a fact that she has the ability of a mega-star. We’ve seen that star power for two years on NXT and even during an impressive performance at Royal Rumble. Baszler has what it takes, but what matters is what she can do when the lights are on bright on WWE’s hottest branded PPV show name.

Not only will delivering an impressive performance one-on-one with the company’s top star silence her critics, but it will officially establish the former NXT Women’s Champion as a main stay of WWE’s main event picture.

As long as she can deliver at WrestleMania, Shayna Baszler will be undeniable.
