Breaking news hit today as The Revival has finally been released by WWE, and it’s opened the door to several potential dream matches for the duo.

The news has been over a year in the making, thanks in large part to reporting by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful. As early as January 2019, Sapp reported that WWE feared The Revival “could be done or finishing up with the company.”

Just a few months later, Sapp further reported that WWE had offered them “five year, $500,000 per year deals each,” which clearly weren’t accepted.

Continued offers went unanswered, they asked for their release in January 2020, and were even taken off the road and no longer being paid just last month, but WWE has finally released them.

It’s worth noting that Dash Wilder was a key figure in the WWE 24 documentary on Edge and his return to the company, which may have been a factor in WWE’s reluctance to release the team before now. Whatever was the driving force, The Revival has been freed, and that opens the floodgates to potential dream matches.

While it’s likely they’ll end up in AEW eventually, The Revival also has the opportunity to make the rounds on the independent scene before they commit to another long-term contract. Here, we’ll look at five dream matches now open for The Revival, both in AEW and elsewhere.

The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander)

It didn’t take long for Ethan Page to shoot his shot on this one. Just one hour after WWE announced the release of The Revival, Ethan Page was already on Twitter tagging both Dash and Dawson to try and make this dream match a reality.

The North are the current Impact Tag Team Champions, which they’ve held for 278 days and counting, and are former PWG Tag Team Champions. The North, much like The Revival, bring an old school traditional tag team feel to their matches along with great in-ring psychology. This one just seems too good to pass up, and hopefully these four get the opportunity to make it happen.
