It may never happen, but CM Punk vs. Will Ospreay is a dream match the wrestling world is hoping for at some point in future, even if we’re talking about the distant future.

Right now, we’re all dealing with far more important things than professional wrestling, but in an effort to keep our minds on a hopeful future, we do enjoy distracting ourselves with thoughts of dream matches and “What ifs?”

NJPW wrestler Will Ospreay tweeted last month that he’d love to work towards a dream match at Wrestle Kingdom 15 against CM Punk, who listed The Aerial Assassin as one of his dream opponents. Such was the high praise from Punk that Ospreay was listed among a who’s who of legends “The Voice of the Voiceless” had faced in WWE – John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and Daniel Bryan.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, whose interviews are always a must-watch, Ospreay stated that he and CM Punk have been messaging each other on Instagram. [Hat tip to WhatCulture.com’s Jamie Kennedy.]

Ospreay clarified that there’s nothing planned between them and the two are just talking as friends, meaning they aren’t exactly working on a dream match.

But they are talking, which matters given the recent remarks made by both men hinting at the possibility of a future match.

Wrestling fans know that anything can happen in this form of entertainment. I mean, who saw Chris Jericho becoming a champion in NJPW, feuding with the likes of Tetsuya Naito, and then being the centerpiece star of WWE’s biggest competitor in the United States in WCW.

So CM Punk wrestling Will Ospreay in NJPW seems far less wild by comparison, especially since fans have been wondering if the current FS1, WWE Backstage analyst has an itch to return. Seth Rollins vs. Punk is one dream match, but Ospreay and Punk tearing the house down in the Tokyo Dome would be something else entirely.

Next. Dolph Ziggler has been an unexpected hero. dark

There are so many “What ifs?” about this dream match that go beyond Punk’s desire to return, such as if it’s even plausible for wrestling matches to take place anywhere in the world in January 2021. But if that possibility is there, Punk vs. Ospreay is definitely worth getting our hopes up for.
