Not everyone in WWE or wrestling has a smart mind for the business, but Mandy Rose showed she does after being the mastermind behind the Otis storyline.

The term “best for business” gets thrown around a lot in wrestling and especially in WWE. When, really, it takes years of experience before anyone in the industry – in front or behind the camera – truly understands what’s really “best for business” and what steps should be taken for the betterment of said business.

With a wrestling career spanning only five years since joining the WWE, Mandy Rose may actually have such an acute awareness for what’s truly best for business.

As it turns out, as she recently explained to TV Series Hub, Rose was the one who originally approached Vince McMahon with a pitch to enter a storyline with Otis. The reason being because she took note to the playful chemistry the two shared behind the scenes and figured they could recreate that magic for the millions watching at home.

It was a simple move with simple reasoning, but it paid off in bringing to life what has arguably been the most entertaining storyline to emerge out of 2020. Granted, names like recently released script writer Andrea Listenberger helped flesh out the story to the point that it was able to eventually reach its full potential in greatness, but Mandy Rose setting it all in motion with her pitch is a big deal.

It also highlights the smarts that Rose has that could launch her into the next stratosphere of being the company’s next top star. Being a top star is usually viewed at as having the in-ring skill, character presence, or mic skills and while all of that is important, it is just (if not more) important to understand what might be the best trajectory, business wise, to take your character in.

That calls for making important pitches like this. All wrestlers undoubtedly have pitched something to creative, but it was smart on Rose’s part to asked to be inserted in a storyline with Otis when both are in very different career trajectories.

It’s similar to how Alexa Bliss pitched to Vince a tag team with Nikki Cross at a point when Cross had been absent from TV and without a storyline for ages. That certainly paid in dividends for Bliss Cross Applesauce and we are now seeing similar dividends between Otis and Rose.

If Rose keeps making smart pitches like this, we could be seeing a bright future for her.
