A lot of critics are going to take umbrage with Becky Lynch not defending her WWE title at Money in the Bank, but the bottom line is she doesn’t need to.

Money in the Bank is this Sunday and the card is set to include some of the best WWE Superstars that the company can offer from their roster. You name it: Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Bayley, Asuka, etc.

Just about everyone is set to be there: except Becky Lynch.

Becky Lynch is coming off the heels of not only successfully defending her Raw Women’s Championship against Shayna Baszler at WrestleMania, but has managed to hold on to that title for over 365 days. Yet, at one of WWE’s premiere Big Five Pay-Per-View events, one of the company’s top stars and top merchandise sellers is not slotted for a match this Sunday. In fact, it’s been a few weeks since we’ve even seen Lynch on WWE TV.

The reasoning for Lynch being absent continues to be speculated and yet to be confirmed, but the fact of the matter is that for all of the hard work that Lynch has done in the past year, she does not need to be on the card.

Becky Lynch spent the past year not only defending her belt and/or competing in high profile matches at every single PPV, but also attending media appearances any and every chance she could. Let’s not forget that more recently, she made an appearance in Showtime’s hit show Billions in a cameo that was likely filmed a year ago.

She’s been all over the place for the last year. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if she misses just one PPV.

Keep in mind that before the world was thrust into a pandemic, it was widely rumored that Lynch would be dropping the title at Mania to pursue a brief vacation, namely to wed with fiance Seth Rollins and have a honeymoon. She obviously didn’t lose her title, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t owed some time off still (assuming that’s a possibility).

On an extra bright side, it isn’t necessary for Lynch to defend her title at a PPV in a filler feud/match that isn’t likely to span passed the PPV itself.

Such one-off fillers like when Ronda Rousey beat Ruby Riott in mere minutes at Elimination Chamber 2018 did more to damage the credibility of the champion’s challenger than anything. People would’ve complained if Rousey had skipped the PPV entirely, but there were also complaints of Riott losing a filler contest. We don’t need to repeat history for Lynch to receive her own complaints.

dark. Next. AEW: Darby Allin needs one more step to beat Cody

It’s perfectly acceptable for Lynch to take some time away to recharge her batteries, especially if it means she’ll return better than ever. Let her recharge and save whatever match/feud we could have seen from her at Money in the Bank for later down the line.

She’s been The Man for a year and even The Man needs time off.
