AJ Styles is back on WWE Raw and back from the dead, and does so at the best time possible, just when Monday nights were craving for something phenomenal.

After being buried alive in the main event of WrestleMania Night One by The Undertaker in WWE’s first ever Boneyard Match, AJ Styles miraculously returned to WWE Raw tonight for a Last Chance Gauntlet Match where he won himself a spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match this Sunday.

We have no idea how he pulled himself out of his grave. Maybe that’s what happened. He literally clawed his way back up from the dirt and back to the surface. Maybe he’s a zombie now. Or a ghost. Granted, Styles did assure us in his post-win promo, “I’m not a zombie! I’m not a ghost!” Because it’s hard to tell these days. We are in the middle of a real life apocalypse, after all.

Regardless of how or why AJ Styles is back already after a month of inactivity inside of a grave, now is the perfect time to have him back. Not necessarily or solely so that he could fill out that final spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. He may not necessarily even win that match. But bringing him back to the roster now immediately positions him as another name in the main event picture.

To put it more bluntly, it offers Drew McIntyre a title challenger when the WWE Champion desperately could use one.

Admittedly, as far as top heels are concerned, the Raw roster is a bit thin at the moment. There’s a reason why Seth Rollins, as big of a challenger as he is, wound up being McIntyre’s first PPV challenger so early into his reign. It’s because … well, who else does Raw have?

Outside of heels, the roster seems even thinner when we consider factors like Kevin Owens being injured and top names like Edge and Orton being M.I.A. since Mania.

It seems unlikely that McIntyre is going to lose in his first PPV title defense and while WWE continues to build challengers like Jinder Mahal in the background, McIntyre is eventually going to need a post-MITB challenger.

Enter AJ Styles, who actually has a bit of history with Drew McIntyre that could be used as a basis for a title feud. WWE needs a fresh revolving door of heel challengers for McIntyre and adding Styles to the pile at least makes that revolving door a little heavier. It’s much needed and at the perfect time.
